Yes! And we’re seeing a correlation between lack of unsupervised play and higher rates of mental health challenges in children and young people. We’re well intentioned adults but sometimes we just need to let kids be kids. #EduSkyAU

Here's a crazy idea: Fund all schools to the minimum standard under Gonski FASTER, not by 2034. Delay is not neutral. It’s a political choice that deepens inequity. Let’s fast-track funding for fairness #EduSkyAU
The final Q for tonight's chat... c'mon people, tell me what you really think and want!: Q6. What’s one bold policy change you’d make today to better prepare our schools for tomorrow? #EduSkyAU

A6. Absolutely. We don’t need more PD—we need more co-design. Bring in educators, students, and even designers to reimagine learning environments. Good space design supports wellbeing, engagement, and expression. It should be a shared endeavour. #EduSkyAU

A3: A key AI skill is critical thinking. Generations are often imperfect and need editing… they take away cognitive overwhelm but are not the “end product”. To teach this, schools and universities must model critical reflection through multiple examples - embrace AI, not fear it. #EduSkyAu 💻💭🧠🧑‍🏫

A6. The impact of coaching or tech use isn't measured in rubrics—it’s felt in culture. When students speak with more confidence, take creative risks, and challenge injustice, you know it’s working. Long-term impact shows up in the choices they make with courage. #EduSkyAU

A6 As I’ve recently moved into workplace training, there are so many young adults with low literacy (reading/writing/digitech)- knowledge of relevant AI tools is a gift #EduSkyAU
Question 6: What support or resources do teachers need to effectively use AI tools while maintaining equity and access for all students? #EduSkyAU @eduskyauteam.bsky.social

A3: Start with curiosity, not complexity. Use real-world examples relevant to students’ lives and scaffold skills over time. Co-create with students, embed culture, and ensure tools reflect diverse identities. Make AI literacy inclusive by design. #EduSkyAU
Q3: What strategies work best for promoting AI skills among diverse students? #EduSkyAU @eduskyauteam.bsky.social

A2 I think regardless of the approach, educating the whole person should be at the core. To me, a values based approach (think #SDG #FristNationsPerspectives and #Sustainability etc.) make all pedagogies richer, more contextual/purposeful in supporting student growth and learning. #EduSkyAU

A6

You need to start in the shallows. A really guided inquiry process where the teacher explicitly guides Ss through the inquiry process and upskills Ss in the process of inquiry with explicit instruction. As Ss build up the skills, you can let them swim deeper!
