This isn’t to say we shouldn’t have anything, but that whatever tort we do have should be designed from scratch, focusing on the bigger issues of, eg, bullying and harassment rather than some Victorian ideal of reputation and honour.

As we confront the role of defamation law in suppressing speech, I wonder if there could be massive implications from a cultural takeover about two years ago where a beloved actor successfully won a dubious defamation case against a woman who had significant and court-approved evidence of his abuse
