Happy birthday Mario Morra! 🇨🇦 🤝🇮🇹

As confirmed by his son John, I found out that he was born in Monteleone di Puglia, near Foggia, 72 years ago.

That makes Mario the only Italian-born cueist that had the honor to play at the Crucible, feat that happened in 1984, when he lost against Cliff Thorburn.

New in my collection - one of my favorite aesthetic in a snooker program.

In Shanghai 4 Scots reached the semifinals.

World number 1 and current world champion John Higgins defeated 9-3 in the final surprise Billy Snaddon, that won against Stephen Hendry.

In 1995 Guo Hua was the first Chinese player that moved to the UK on his own and try the really hard path of making a name for himself at the Norbreck Castle during the "open era".

Really happy for the new addition in my collection, a piece of Canadian snooker history.

75 years ago, the great George Chenier was invited to the UK and amazed the public with his flamboyant game, characterized by brilliant potting, use of side, and tremendous cue power.

45 years ago, we lost Warren Simpson, finalist of the 1971 World Championship. Apart from a break-off in an exhibition against Fred Davis in 1960, there is no footage of the Melbourne native, that is remembered as a fast, aggressive player - with a passion for money matches.

I'm really happy for Eugenio Staccione, one of the players supported by @snookeritalia.bsky.social, that last week-end reached the semifinal of the Italian National Snooker Championship.

Few pictures of my first experience as a journalist at the World Championship last week - enjoyed the buzz.

Such a pleasure see the Snooker Italia's logo shine on Vito Puopolo's sleeve on the poster for the Q Tour play-offs.

It was an honor help Vito in realize his dream to play at the Crucible for the World Seniors Championship two years ago. Playing for Canada, but proud of his Italian roots.

Found in my archive this rare 8-mm footage of George Chenier, born 118 years ago, the first world class Canadian snooker player, 23 times North American champion and World Championship semifinalist in 1950.
Classic trickshot routine with some nice adds, a piece of oversea's snooker history.

My favorite additions to my snooker memorabilia collection of year 2024.

• HP Sauce flyer for “James Brown”, "commercial" idea for the 2005 Masters.

• Abstract painting in limited edition (32 copies) signed by Steve Davis at the Crucible in 2010, where he defeated defending champion John Higgins.

Second edition of the Italian Snooker Masters - we did it!

Huge congrats to Florian - he won in style and made Italian snooker’s history with the first witnessed 147 realized during a practice frame in our country (sadly we were not able to have the streaming).

Three years ago - Dominic Dale wearing Snooker Italia's logo at the Scottish Open (held in Wales), facing Ronnie O'Sullivan in the first round.
Few frames of Dom's wearing the logo appeared also in the documentary "Ronnie O'Sullivan: The Edge of Everything".

You might think that the first illustration is from some old Victorian billiards book - when snooker was not even born.

Instead seems that jump shots were allowed (and played in a quite particular way) back around 1911, when Wallace Ritchie published the book "How to play snooker pool".

Finally put my hands on a copy of Walter Donaldson's "Snooker Digest" (1948).

Lovely cartoons and discovered that the Scotsman hold the unofficial highest break record in 1946 (142 - 15 reds, 12 blacks, 1 pink, 2 blues).

Great to see more snooker here - so you deserve a picture of the GOAT. Ladies and gentlemen, Ju Reti.
Also on the pic, a seven time world champion.

I hope there will be the chance one day to read the whole story - an amazing one!

Always a prolific day at the office when you sit on your chair and find the complimentary set: Ray Reardon’s coaster and Embassy World Snooker 2003 glass.
