Since the #bsky algorithm is fair, unlike twitter, and creating posts is no longer pointless, I'm the author of #GivingTuesday's #CivicIntent report - a way to measure that sense of "doing good" and "good intentions" that 4 out of 5 Americans feel:

It's fascinating to consider that prison populations are 15-25% psychopaths, compared to about 1% of the general population.

These are people who can't empathize or reciprocate with others.

Ideas about citizens legally deterring local ICE activities:

"This last weekend, we heard horns honking and whistling, I ran outside to see if someone was stopped. It was two SUV’s with ice agents and at least 15 cars following them making as much noise as they could. People had been waiting at

In response to the Charlotte ICE raids, I was reading forums from people, and it sounds like Home Depot, Menards and Target all allowed ICE to use their parking lots for staging raids. (In Chicago too).

It's helpful when corporations are transparent about their stance. Helps me decide who I visit.

One of my favorite discoveries today is that Liquor Kiosks in the USSR used to be called "American Girls."

Something about that tickles me pink as a writer.
So what people did was this: go down to the liquor kiosk (called an American Girl for no known reason) with a ruble in your pocket and hold your fist to your stomach, one thumb up.

Within a minute or so, someone would come next to you and hold his thumb up too to show that he had another ruble.

I was doing some reading today.

During the 1970s -- a decade with stagflation (14% inflation peak), an oil embargo, a "national nightmare," and generally a poor economy -- happened to be the last time wages for rich and poor rose together.

1990s & 2010s- market booms - the wealth gap widened.

Russia's 2nd largest political party only got 4.3% of the vote in 2024. They won 2nd in the last 10 elections.

I think those in power in the US would be thrilled to "get" 95% of the votes even if it was fraudulent.

Wow. Will there be an Alzheimer's epidemic in about 15 years?

On one MIT study: "Students asked to write essays with ChatGPT showed the lowest brain activity among all groups tested."
& minutes later, 83% couldn’t remember anything they'd "written"

Worth reading this about Watson - young and old - as it is important to realize that luck has much more to do with our success than we admit. And sometimes, it stands on stealing key data from Rosalind Franklin and NOT crediting her, maybe, because she was "just a woman"?
pre-writing a devastating obituary for your enemy is god-tier hating of a kind you don’t often see anymore. renaissance haterism. beautiful stuff.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

Why are the Dem leaders so hated?
- They make a lot of speeches but don't actually make their own sacrifices. When they close government, they just appear to quit the public eye, instead of mobilizing a direct action to help the poor, who bear the brunt of the suffering.

Neither of these are what those words mean, which is why we need new words to describe the economic divide in the world.
