New paper out in @sociologicalsci.bsky.social with @marckeuschnigg.bsky.social and Peter Hedström! We identify a social-influence mechanism that widens individuals' behavioral repertoires and breaks the link between individuals' initial preferences and the collective outcomes they bring about.

The 11th #IC2S2 kicked off today! Highlights: Dean Eckles on making effect sizes meaningful for decisions, and Kathleen Carley on how Network Science + AI can detect and mitigate online influence — and even generate synthetic data. Inspiring to see how her work still shapes mine after 20+ years.
Day 1 Keynote “Computational analysis of social and organizational systems” by Kathleen M. Carley. Who is influencing whom online, how, and to what effect? This keynote showed how BEND framework is operationalized by combining network science and AI. #ic2s2
