Into time 👋🏻

I'm Marcin, I have lived in a few countries across Europe, now in 🇸🇪🫎Sweden and loving it here.

I'm a 👨🏻‍💻 software engineer who got curious about 👥people too and became a manager. I've been in leadership positions for the best part of the last two decades, most recently at 🎧🎶📱Spotify.

I sure did not expect Gemini to spill the beans in response to my request for a cooking timer. And yet it did. Maybe it thinks I speak JavaScript. The timer sure works.
@kevlin.bsky.social does this quality as one? Software revealing its guts not just in failure? 🤔

I'm loving the new e-ink displays that are appearing across Stockholm's SL public transport network. They are sharp, clear, work high contrast and low power consumption.

Listening to the media commentary on the death of Pope Francis I'm surprised by the liberal vs. conservative narrative. I don't hope for another "liberal" pope but a leader who continues the truly traditional work of the Gospel: serving the poor, seeking justice, and building bridges. #HolySea

I wonder how much longer we'll get to see #KevlinHenny software failures in the wild. I mean the _revealing_ kind. The new failures of the AI kind tend to be more of the opaque #FailWhale "Something Went Wrong" kinds.

It's kind of cute when speakers at technology conferences create analogies to domains they have no idea about 🤭
I'm sure these analogies work for the majority of participants but feel funny when you know how things actually work in that domain.

C'mon MacOS, keep up with the times.
Your Activity Monitor is still only showing the CPU chart, what about the GPU?

My friend @hejelin.bsky.social together with @gergely.pragmaticengineer.com are sending out a survey as part of the "Pragmatic Engineer" newsletter.

If you are working as an engineer or a manager in technology please take 5-15 minutes and share your perspective.

Where is generative AI when one needs it... For example to generate the ALT text for photos.

It works remarkably well. I want it right in my workflow seamlessly integrated.

Starting the new year with a new 📺 terminal emulator on Mac. I used iTerm for a long time and completely by chance bumped into 👻 ghostty.org. It's written in zig by Mitchell Hashimoto, has just been released and I'm ❤️ loving it. It's fast, os-native and feature-rich with sane defaults.

For the past three months I have tried to take a peek at the future of AI-fuelled software development.

The result? A mix of powerful insights, frustrating hiccups, and plenty of learning opportunities.

Humans are full of emotions that can have a very high generative energy. It's such a shame when organisations limit the spectrum of emotions that are engaged to a single one: fear.

We are bombarded with information. Most social platforms keep us in neat and distinct bubbles. Confirmation bias is rampant.

Remaining curious and critical is a key skill.

Here is a small personal story of confronting one of my own views.
