Reading #queries this morning and seeing a trend that thrills me:

Southern Gothic!

I love a good Southern Gothic and want to add one to my list.

#JMSQueryBoxTrends

P.S. Almost through Sept queries, still have Oct (and ~1000 more to read), plus a few from earlier that I’m still considering.

Reading #queries this morning and seeing a lot of:

Historical settings (1930s, 1960s, 1990s);
Serial Killers (with a nod to Ed Gein);
And first lines that begin with:
“My name is…”

#JMSQueryBoxTrends

P.S. I’m still FAR behind in my reading, but I’m trying to catch up. Thanks for your patience!

It's a School Library Journal star for NEVER SEEN THE STARS by Kate Korsh!

⭐ "This is a standout story that is equal parts sad and hopeful, with extremely relatable and beautiful explorations of grief, disability, and loss.” ⭐

Wishing the happiest of Book Birthdays to @korshkate.bsky.social's funny, heartbreaking #YA, NEVER SEEN THE STARS.

I love this book with all my heart and soul. No story has made me laugh or cry as hard in years. (Decades! Ever?)

CONGRATULATIONS, KATE!

Querying writers -- Please give yourselves some grace and stop fretting about a few silly typos in your queries. We probably won't notice them, we're not going to hold them against you, and if we DO hold them against you, you don't want to work with us anyway.

I am finding so much joy writing an editorial letter for a new horror novel that excites me in every way.

Her babes are hatching.

Happy Halloween!

Dear #amquerying #querying,

I have fallen a bit behind in my reading and am still working my way through September #queries. If you are waiting to hear from me, that means either (a) you're still in the queue, or (b) I'm considering your project and might request it.

Thanks for your patience!

📦Unboxing my newest picture book GRAY SQUIRREL LOSES IT with my kiddo! There were some bumps along the way, like the cat food dispenser sounding off, but we pressed on and now I’m inclined to make this a tradition. What do you think—should we keep unboxing together?

Dear #DVPit creators, I need to drop off for a bit, but please keep me in mind if you think I could be a good fit. In particular, I am looking for:

#horror (psychological, but gore is good, too. Bring on the blood)
#horroromance (dating is a nightmare)
#thriller (people behaving badly)
#contempYA

#RevisionTip Dreaming--or waking up from a dream--is passive, and the moment can feel flat to the reader.

If the dream is important, try revising it as a scene that happens in real time on the page. It will give your character agency and push the drama forward in an exciting way. #revising

I love reading queries and getting the chance to see into the worlds of many creators, whose perspectives are so very different from my own.

I wish I could respond to you all individually, as I have many thoughts. I don't have time, but please know I appreciate your work and the chance to read it!

YWMTBH is an INSTANT BESTSELLER!

In this day and age, a horror novel BY and ABOUT a disabled trans man - tackling pregnancy as violence, the necessity of abortion, and the right to CHOOSE - hitting a list? It feels like a miracle.

Everyone, thank you so much 🪱

top two things things that I, a trans horror author, have signed instead of my own books:

- a box containing a vial of medical testosterone (the reader and I used the same brand) (hell yeah dude)
- the literal Book of Mormon (yes, as in the LDS religious text) (pocket edition)
