Today is a reading day (both client manuscripts and #queries).

If I see any #JMSQueryBoxTrends or think of a #WriteTip or #QueryTip, I will share insight.

Wishing you a great #writing / #revising day and weekend!

Hello #amquerying writers! I wanted to share a quick update. I got so many AMAZING queries since opening Starling—over 1,000. I also had surgery last week so I'm unfortunately behind in my QB.

I'm trying to catch up, and I appreciate your patience. I am seeing some wonderful stuff!

my newest novel, YOU’RE NO BETTER—a teen thriller about messy trans kids and serial killers—has an official summary!

this book is a rough one, and it tackles a lot of ugliness, but I love it so much and can’t wait to share it 💕

#QueryTip (and #SubmissionTip):
A creator #bio is a few sentences about you. If you have education pertinent to your writing, include it. If not, don't (and don't worry.) Same is true for experience or awards--and if not, it's okay. End with a line that connects you to your project, like...

Whoosh! Another hour has gone by in a flash!

I had a great time and hope my answers were helpful.

Thank you so much for joining me this Wednesday, and please join me again next week.

Now, arise, go forth, write and revise. Your voice matters!

The hour is almost up. I have time for one more question.

#QueryTip Agents receive multiple queries everyday, including holidays. We have to read our queries on top of our other reading: client manuscripts, contracts, etc.
Because I read so many, I have to read quickly and make fast decisions. If something doesn’t grab me, I have to pass

#QueryTip #Pitch #Logline Formula to get you started:

When [the inciting incident happens], [the protagonist] must [achieve the objective], or risk [the stakes] before [ticking clock]

Then revise and polish at the line level for great effect. Think smart, snappy, and scintillating. Less is more!

The world is full of uncertainty right now, and many of us look to books as a way to escape--hence the current popularity of romantasy, romance, etc. But I agree that kids need to see themselves reflected on the page. I love those stories, and I welcome them. Please send them to me. #querytip
Are we in a word of escapism now for kids and publishing? I mean, how do you handle realism and resilience in kid lit today? Should we not write about homeless, hungry kids? Or how do you do that for kids? Or not at all?

#QueryTip Agents will pass on your work, but they're passing on your project, not you personally. Don't worry if you sent something out too soon. Keep #writing. Keep #revising. Keep #querying. Don't give up. You'll get there. I'm rooting for you!
