With sweet handmade mittens like these, who’s complaining about our long Manitoba winters? This pair of children’s mittens was made by Katarina Hofer of the Rock Lake Hutterite Colony in 1971. The design features a knitted cord to slip through the sleeves of a coat so the mittens don’t get lost!

Manitoba's nine members of the weasel family are small- or medium-sized, carnivorous mammals that are agile and inquisitive. Most feed on small mammals, but minks and otters can catch fish, fishers have learned how to catch porcupines, and wolverines are mostly scavengers.
