My moral failing is that while I believe broadly in redemption of the individual, I also firmly believe that throwing Nazis into a vat of acid should be socially acceptable, and I don't care to bridge those two beliefs whatsoever.

Seeing someone decaying to their own addiction struggles, is heartbreaking.
If stopping was that simple, there wouldn't be issues at all. Just to stop is not easy, been there and done it.
However, there's a line where you need to protect yourself and it's beyond that point now.
