Empowering Workers. Building Futures. Continuing the Teamster Legacy. Interview Spotlight: Nelson Nunez, President — Teamsters Local 1205 With more than 25 years as a proud Teamster and over two decades of service within Teamsters Local 1205, President Nelson Nunez embodies what union leadership is truly about: advocacy, empowerment, and unwavering commitment to working people. Nelson’s journey began on the front lines as an organizer, where he helped lead one of the largest private-sector bus organizing campaigns on Long Island — a historic effort that resulted in workers securing their first contract, guaranteed wages, grievance protections, and most importantly, a real voice on the job as part of the 1.4 million-member Teamsters family nationwide. Today, under his leadership, Local 1205 represents workers across a wide range of industries — from university clerical staff and librarians at The New School, to warehouse and building materials workers, to school bus drivers entrusted with what Nelson calls “the most precious cargo of all — our children.” Especially for special-needs students, this work isn’t just a job — it’s a mission. What sets Local 1205 apart is its belief that every worker deserves dignity, respect, and representation, no matter the industry. As Nelson explains: “Wherever there is a worker that needs a voice on the job — reach out to us.” Local 1205 doesn’t just fight for its own members — it fights for all workers, recognizing a simple truth: When workers succeed together, we all rise together. Through strong contracts, a fabulous pension, excellent medical coverage, a newly launched scholarship fund, and an active retirees club, Local 1205 is building long-term security for its members and their families — not just for today, but for generations. But perhaps Nelson’s greatest contribution is his passion for teaching workers their power. “The hardest part of the job is not doing things for people — it’s teaching them they have rights and how to stand up for themselves.” From shop stewards to trustees, from the executive board to the presidency itself, Nelson is creating a pathway for everyday workers to become tomorrow’s leaders — strengthening the union from within and ensuring the Teamster legacy continues. It’s leadership rooted in service. It’s organizing grounded in education. It’s the power of working people — in action.

This manufactured timeline was all a pressure tactic to rush through a heavily redacted contract that – for some reason – DTE does not want my office or the public to see.

Boy ate too fast for a pic tonight.

BBQ air fried turkey wings, red beans & rice, cilantro and fresh grapefruit salad.

Attacking Chonky Week frozen leftovers sooner than expected but I don't have time for the farmers market last weekend and didn't plan ahead for dinner tonight.
