How did the crisis of Russian identity, beginning in the 1990s, lead to Putin’s genocidal “quest for symbolic immortality,” of which the invasion of Ukraine is one manifestation?

When Russia invaded Ukraine, Finland’s then-president Niinistö said that the masks had fallen.

If anyone was still clinging onto some kind of hope of Trump coming around on Ukraine, this disgrace of a press conference should make everything clear now.

Trump is anti-Ukraine. Pro-Russia.

11 years ago #Russia illegally and treacherously occupied #Crimea. This day is a symbol for resistance to the occupation. The fact remains: Crimea is Ukraine!

Just like Donetsk, Kherson, Luhansk and Zaporizhzhia.

Austria remains committed to a free and independent #Ukraine.

Ukraine is not, as the Russian ambassador said, a "project."
Its statehood is older than Muscovy’s.
It has been a member of the US longer than Russia.
It has a language, an identity and its own aspirations.

🔹Three years ago, Russia launched an unprovoked full-scale war of aggression against Ukraine. Yet, its violations began long before—since 2014, Russia has illegally occupied Crimea and waged war in Eastern Ukraine, blatantly defying international law.

Do you know those relatives (usually retired uncles) who, during family gatherings, complain about current politics, democracy and paint a vision of how they would run a state - with an iron fist, of course?

It feels like too many of their kind have actually made it into power these days.
