Also credited as Maithreyi Hughes. I write fiction and poetry in English and translate from Kannada. I live in Wales.
Honoured and grateful to have my collection of short stories Gooday Nagar formally launched by Jnanpith Awardee Damodar Mouzo baab, and the eloquent, witty, and formidable stage fire lighter Jerry Pinto at the Goa Arts and Literature Festival 2026.

I saw my book in real for the first time. I sent Rhys a photo of me holding it. Most men might say 'congratulations' or some such. Not my man. He talks about set theory. Why do you think the dedication is what it is? 😆

Come if you are in Goa 😊

Here's the deal. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I'll launch two books on the same day. A novel in Kannada and a short story collection in English. Guess I need wilder dreams 😁
Come to one if not to both. Bangalore 15 Feb.

A little glimpse of my new book. It will have a Goa release on the 13th and a Bangalore release on the 15th this month.
Gooday Nagar is a city where thieving monkeys cause riots, revolutionaries fear gobhi manchurian and one morning you might wake up to discover that everything is made of cake.

@maithreyikarnoor.bsky.social’s surreal stories unearth the ironies of modern life with wicked humour and strange delight.

Come for the launch of Gooday Nagar, my new collection of short stories at Beku Cafe, Bengaluru, on the 15th Feb!

Maithreyi Karnoor's review of Mother Mary Comes to Me
3/5: It is hard to review a memoir. You sound like a voyeur if you comment on the author’s life (notwithstanding the fact that you are there by invitation) and frivolous by commenting on the textualit...

Everyone is a candlelight vigil waiting to happen. Even those who laugh at those who fell before them.

I started the year as a one-book writer, and ended it as a two-book (and a bilingual) writer.
Happy new year :)

Reading this beautiful novel when I heard about the tragic train accident that killed seven elephants in Assam. Four babies and three adults. The pain and grief is unfathomable. I wish we humans would stop claiming the world as private property.
Wishing for kindness and healing 😿🙏

My mum called to say she has started reading my novel.
Mum: I've read about 30 pages. Enjoying it very much. But should I be worried about what's to come?
Me: Of course you should! What do you take me for?

My poem 'Protection' was broadcast on Slovenian Radio today in Katja Zakrajšek's translation. It's humbling in a surreal way to know one's thoughts have travelled on another's words. As a translator myself, this feels doubly special. Utterly grateful to Katja 🙂
