I'm working on a new book at the moment and like all the other novels I've written there is a time when I think it's the worst thing I've worked on.

But it's a first draft.

I tell students and pupils that it's the editing that makes a piece of writign shine.

I need to take my own advice!

I think there are a lot of books about love but you might not think of that when you read them as other themes might be more obvious. The Last Bear by Hannah Gold - father and daughter love, lost love, ove of animals and nature.

An Island of Our Own - Sally Nicholls. Sibling love.

As grown-ups we can often fall into the trap of leaning towards serious or ‘issue heavy’ kid’s books, forgetting that kids also need and deserve books that just bring joy.

So for #KidsBooksFriday this week, what are your top fun / silly / joyful book recommendations?

No joke: I got angry hate mail today for writing an obituary of a Black woman scientist—because the person felt she did didn’t deserve the recognition.

Which just makes me want to share it again: www.nature.com/articles/d41...
Gladys Mae West obituary: mathematician who pioneered GPS technology
She made key contributions to US cold-war science despite facing huge barriers as a Black woman.

Do you have days when you are overwhelmed by how busy you are and things you need to get done and then you end up doing NOTHING!

I got my PLR statement the other week but I have a lot of titles and didn't work out how many loans there was in total of my books/stories. It's 12,813!

This is from public libraries in a year. I am shocked but also very thankful. GREENOCK CENTRAL LIBRARY and PORT GLASGOW are under threat.

I'm so busy this month. The thought of it makes me tired.

Two 50 min sessions, which were probably around 40 mins when we got started. My thigh gets a bit tired from doing the 'kick' though. But I'm enjoying it!

I've had a couple of drum lessons the past two weeks and it's harder than I thought. I can now play Seven Nation Army though. Ringo Starr I am not!

This is the scariest one of the series but no children actually get eaten, so don't be worried kids.

Yes, it's that time of year again! The Chinese/Lunar New Year - this year it's 17th Feb and it's the Year of the Neigh Neigh! Or Horse. If you want a fun book that would attract boys who are reluctant readers tell them about Tiger Warrior: Rise of the Lion Beast.

Boy, Everywhere by AM Dass is one of my faves. The Journey by Frenci Sanna picture book too. The Endless Sea by Chi Thai and Linh Dao.
