The olive grove is finally in, protected from ravenous deer by a seriously fierce electric fence. Ten manazanillos, ten kalamatas, and nine random strays should provide us, and everyone we know, with more olives than we can possibly consume. Such a lovely thing, getting more trees in the ground 🌳

The ume plums are always the first blossoms of the season in our orchard. For some reason, it's felt like a hard winter this year. Maybe it's climate anxiety, impending old age, the fact the world is falling apart around us... In any case, it's lovely to feel that perhaps spring isn't too far away.

I’m loving,
@sarahpinsker.bsky.social ‘s collection of short stories, ‘Sooner or Later Everything Falls Into the Sea’, but had to set the book aside for the night after reading ‘In Joy, Knowing the Abyss Behind’. One of the most moving things I’ve read in a very long time. So beautifully written.

I know an amazing young woman, 14 years old at the moment, who wants to be an astrophysicist. She’s so excited that she’ll be eligible for NASA Space Camp when she turns 16. She doesn’t read much news, so I’m really hoping she doesn’t see any of the coverage of this absolute puke-fest of a flight.
