"QB or Not QB? Measuring Discrimination in Football Labor Markets"

TL;DR

I find that there is significant discrimination when recruiting QBs from HS to college (and from college to the NFL!) based on their race.. and this costs teams wins🏆 and money💰 1/n

WOW. 81% of women 18-29 voted for Mamdani, 80% for Sherril, and 78% for Spanberger.

Gen Z women aren't playing around.

I was on a crafting kick today, and ended up sewing some sun glasses cases. #procrasticrafting (?)

I need to somehow get rid of the stash of fabric I keep accumulating without sufficient output.

BobDylan got a ball pit all to himself! #HappyBirthday 🎂
October 31, 2025 at 12:51 AM
It’s BobDylan’s birthday today. 5 marvelous years of this tiny pup being the best boy.

(Do not confuse him with the other Bob Dylan, the second coolest one. His birthday is in May).

in my post-academic era i have become extremely scathing of the way academia considers papers to the primary outcome of intellectual work, and refuses to give credit to academics who write software or build other tooling. in industry we very rarely read your papers; but we always use your software

I'm writing a blog post on making high-quality reports with Quarto and Typst like the ones we recently made for the Johns Hopkins University International Vaccine Access Center.

Anything in particular you want to know about how we make reports like these? #rstats

Q for Python users that miss R: Is there something like `tinytable` for Python? Plotnine solved 90% of the problems of not having `ggplot`, but I need someone to get cracking on building `tinytable` for Python. Pretty please? 😑
October 28, 2025 at 1:14 AM
I’m just here to say that I haven’t used R in like 4 months (just Python), and my heart aches a little bit 💔

This package is absolutely fantastic. 100% recommend for all your table needs.
{tinytable} 0.14.0 for #RStats makes it super easy to draw tables in html, tex, docx, typ, md & png.

There are only a few functions to learn, but don't be fooled! Small 📦s can still be powerful.

Check out the new gallery page for fun case studies.

Had the absolute pleasure of watching “One Battle After Another” last night. What a masterful piece. The story, the cinematography, the performances, the score. Very current for the times. PTA at his best. Go see it in theaters is you can. Almost 3hrs of perfection.

I’m just going to log off for a bit and binge watch The Great British Baking Show, as one must do in periods of high anxiety and distress.

This.

No TT/non-TT/VAP job will be offered to an int'l candidate, since it requires an H1-B until the green card is issued.

This process takes at least a couple of years.

ggplot news is the best kind of news 😍
I am beyond excited to announce that ggplot2 4.0.0 has just landed on CRAN.

It's not every day we have a new major #ggplot2 release but it is a fitting 18 year birthday present for the package.

Get an overview of the release in this blog post and be on the lookout for more in-depth posts #rstats
