After today’s picture description, there will be a poem inspired and written by me for this scene.

Our picture shows a dramatic Irish sunset filling the sky. The upper two-thirds of the picture are dominated by deep, inky blues that gradually soften into rich purples and magentas, like brushed velvet across the heavens.

Below this, the clouds glow with layered streaks of pink and violet, appearing slightly rippled, as if gently stirred by the wind.

Near the horizon, the colours shift again into warm golds and soft yellows, suggesting the last light of the sun as it slips below the land.

In the foreground, bare winter trees stand in silhouette. Their thin, branching limbs reach upward like delicate ink drawings against the glowing sky.

The ground itself is almost entirely black, leaving the trees and sky to carry the scene. The overall feeling is calm, reflective, and quietly powerful an ending that promises something new. Finally, our picture is finished with a simple white border frame.

And now for my poem…

I call it….A New Year Sky

The year exhales in purple flame,
Old hours folding into night,
While bare trees keep their patient watch
Against the fading light.

Gold gathers low on Ireland’s edge,
A promise softly sworn,
That even after darkest dusk
A brighter day is born.

So let this sky be carried on
Into the days ahead,
Where hope, like dawn, returns again
No matter what has fled.
