So incredibly proud of the team of reporters at @thediscourse.ca. We put out four really great stories (and five newsletters) this week. And last weekend, we co-hosted a successful event for International Women's Day. I'm going to share the pieces and video from the event in this thread. ✨

I learned a lot of really random (but important) things about BC's air quality index for this story.
Pollution from wood stoves is decreasing in Courtenay, but winter evenings remain smoky. Data from October to March shows that fine particulate matter in the air still exceeds B.C.’s Air Quality Guidelines for the yearly average maximum. thediscourse.ca/comox-valley...
Courtenay air quality improving, report says – The Discourse.
Smoke pollution is decreasing and air quality is improving in Courtenay, but there is still work to be done.

Weeks ago, I ventured down Quinpool and visited a company office that doesn’t exist. I was looking for a team of Halifax writers who, despite my best efforts to prove otherwise, don’t appear to exist either. And that's only the start.

My latest for @thecoast.ca:

The future of AI news is here in Halifax, it seems—and god, it sucks
How an Instagram DM led to a rabbit-hole chase of fake journalists, fake addresses and fake endorsements, and what it means for us all.

Enjoyed writing this. I think about this stuff often based on past experiences being near wildfires. We also got into a discussion about ways to take care of yourself while reporting/documenting topics such as wildfires or natural disasters, which can sometimes feel impossible but is so important.

This is my favorite picture of Stonewall.

They knew they were getting arrested just for being LGBTQ+.

Yet... they're still here, standing outside of the boarded up Stonewall Inn, smiling as the world was at a fever pitch of hatred against them.

I think about it a lot in moments like this.
