Well, I finally got sucked into the Abundance debate.
An NPR show let me ask Derek Thompson one question.
I asked, "how come the last abundance agenda ended with the biggest economic downturn in 80 years?"
I elaborate here:

The Last Abundance Agenda
In the 1980s, Wall Street vowed to make housing more affordable through deregulation of housing finance. The result was the 2008 crisis.

TY @frontiertony.bsky.social! An important read about a movement that sounds great on the surface, but which on closer examination, simply doesn't square with our goals to advance racial and economic justice.

Tony doesn't get too deeply into ramifications for housing policy, but I recommend... 1/2

This is what LA Times owner Patrick Soon-Shiong chose to spend money on instead of staffing and raises for the hardworking LAT newsroom
Earlier today the LA Times had AI-generated counterpoints to a column from @gustavoarellano.bsky.social. His piece argued that Anaheim, the city he grew up in, should not forget its KKK past.

The AI "well, actually"-ed the KKK. It has since been taken off the piece.

Big community win for housing justice in Long Beach! Community members successfully got the Long Beach City Council to pass a motion expanding the inclusionary housing policy citywide and deepening affordability levels to low income and very low income levels in every neighborhood across the city.

Kudos to my comms colleagues for creating the *ultimate* #CABudget starter pack! These are the folks to follow in order to understand state budget proposals, options, and choices — and what they mean for California's diverse communities. #CALeg
We created a starter pack with a selection of budget and policy experts, reporters, and organizations we're excited to see on BlueSky.

“More giveaways to market-rate developers and ever crueler and more punitive policies towards houseless people will not address the needs of everyday Californians.”

While I’m encouraged by this range of commitments, I’m also concerned that there are no general fund dollars allocated for affordable housing. After years of meaningful investments, proposed funding in this budget has dropped to the minimum levels required by law.
