This, from John Darnielle’s 33 ⅓ book on Master of Reality, is as perfect a description of Ozzy’s voice as you’ll ever find. He sounded like he was from the street. He sounded like the everyman and yet like no man ever has before or ever will again. He sounds like me and yet nothing like me.
Just stumbled across Dr Macro’s High Quality Movie Scans, an archive of 8x10 stills and high-res PDFs of film books and magazines, many from the early 20th century. Amazing resource. Love websites like this. Proper old-internet shit.

I can think of no greater schism in my being, no heavier burden, no more loathsome charge than to have to choose between team bat and team rat. Science Magazine, you cleave me in two.
Talk about an in-flight meal.

Hello! It’s us, your cinephile neighbours, getting shut of a shitload of DVDs and books ahead of our move! Take ‘em all! Don’t be shy!

Ah, the simple pleasure of eating a sandwich in the park, undone by the act of unknowingly chewing egg mayonnaise into your own hair. Curse you, agreeable breeze.

I’m signed up to several casting agencies for work as an extra and the only roles I get offered are prisoners, cultists and scumbags. It’s almost like I have a vibe or something?

Watched James Marsh’s strange, sad and blackly amusing docudrama Wisconsin Death Trip last night and now I’m desperate for a feature film on Mary “the window smasher” Sweeny.

Watched the Euros final at my local cinema last night. There were some issues with the screen that meant, even if only for a moment, we were watching football in Academy ratio. Somehow it just felt right.

Confronting & Celebrating the Limits of the Body: @keithkahnharris.bsky.social on Ozzy Osbourne's final gig:

Confronting & Celebrating the Limits of the Body: Black Sabbath Live at Villa Park | The Quietus
Black Sabbath began with a broken body – Tony Iommi's industrial accident – it is both fitting and inspirational they end in the same way.

If you wanna cry you can listen to Dreamer or See You on the Other Side. If you wanna bang your head there's No More Tears or Over the Mountain. If you want something scary there's Diary of a Madman. If you wanna rail at fascists there's War Pigs or Miracle Man. There's an Ozzy song for everything.

How ill must Ozzy have been at Back to the Beginning given that he’s gone just a few weeks later? And yet he gave it everything *and* sounded incredible doing it. Feel enormously privileged to have seen his final bow. In many ways a perfect ending. There’ll never be another.

Ozzy is one of like 3 people in Decline of Western Civilization Part 2 that comes off as a decent human being and I always love the scene where Penelope Spheeris interviews him making breakfast while he explains the ups and downs of the business.

One of my all-time favourite Ozzy annunciations is the way he stretches the elasticity of the words “cell” and “well” to their absolute limits in A National Acrobat. It’s *so* nasal. He showcases more character in a few words here than many singers do with entire albums.

The Guardian calling Alice in Chains’ Back to the Beginning set “sluggish”? Heinous behaviour. Thousands of us went feral the second they stomped into Man in the Box and didn’t let up through Would? and their Fairies Wear Boots cover. One of my highlights of a day absolutely packed with them.

There’s a real electricity about Birmingham today. People from all over the world convening in public spaces, swapping stories, handing out fliers, happily taking photos for each other, all to demonstrate their love and appreciation of #BlackSabbath. This is what civic pride looks like.

In film, how come the hero’s memories of their dead partner are always softly lit scenes of them dancing on the beach or some shit? Last night I spontaneously said the words “I *love* honey mustard!” in such a strange and stupid way that my partner and I cried laughing. That’s the real shit.
