The claim of pursuing a “balanced budget” sounds good… until you see the math. Trillions in tax cuts going to the rich – increasing the deficit - while slashing healthcare and Social Security. Who benefits from this? It doesn’t add up. #TruthBrigade

Harming children is un-American. Yet the White House is spreading lies to justify defunding USAID—an organization that has saved over 22 million lives. Why lie about something so good? Lies don’t justify letting children starve! #TruthBrigade

America voted for corruption, and that’s what Trump is delivering…. Trump’s corruption and naked profiteering is so open and extreme this time around that to comment on any one aspect of it would be to lose the forest for the trees. The very idea of government ethics is now a smoldering crater

I love this so much!

At the inauguration, Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson wore a distinctive collar adorned with cowrie shells, which are believed to offer protection from evil in African traditions.

This choice mirrors the late Justice Ginsburg’s practice of using collars to convey a message.

Something to Ponder

St. Louis' ties to the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. are well-documented. James Earl Ray was born in Alton, raised mostly in Missouri, and was convicted of robbing a St. Louis Kroger store before escaping the Missouri State Penitentiary in 1967. One year later, he killed King in Memphis.

While I don’t share all the same convictions anymore as the saints in Selma, I think most of us share a sense of just how poorly things are going right now, and how strange it is to have tomorrow’s re-inauguration of a madman looming on the same day we celebrate the legacy of an American prophet.
Reflections on the eve of a Monday both hallowed and harrowing
Ten years ago this spring, I returned to Selma, Alabama, to mark 50 years since Bloody Sunday. As we now approach the 60-year anniversary of the brutal attack that Black civil rights activists face…

How Republicans hijack news stories with their frames:

-Select a high-profile negative story.
-Make false claims linking it to Democratic or progressive policies.
-Get the press to amplify the claims to achieve media virality.
-Threaten action (executive, legal, or legislative) to prolong coverage.

Conservatives blameg DEI for devastating fires currently ravaging California and for a recent terror attack in New Orleans.

Those who make DEI into a bogeyman paint society as a zero-sum game: a slice for you means no slice for me. But, that is a narrow vision fueled by fear, greed and ignorance.

DEI refers to three simple but important words: diversity, equity and inclusion. These three values are indispensable
