He also collects items from people who weren't lucky enough to see another day to offer them to the lost ones.
After all, the original owners are not gonna miss or need them anymore, so the ones that are still alive could find them useful. (Or so he thinks)

He actually does have some! He's fond of watching people that get lost and offer help if he notices they could use a hand to get back on their path.
