Psalms 15:5 NKJV
"He who does not put out his money at usury, Nor does he take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things shall never be moved."

No wonder our political economy is so shaky!

I am so excited for four years of "the purist left is to blame for everything they predicted and warned us about for 20 years"

So many of these online bro problems would be solved if the boys would get active in their church and in a union.

If "Blessed are the poor" (from Luke's Gospel) only means "Blessed are the poor in spirit" (Matthew's Gospel), why did the Holy Spirit see fit to include both?

"Imagine" is the worst song to play at a Christian funeral. "I know you're mourning a loss and Christianity is specifically about resurrection of the dead, but have you considered that your loved one is actually permanent worm food?"

I love formal wear at church as much as the next guy, but I need folks to understand that if I am to wear a suit and tie to church, I will need multiple towels to soak up the sweat.

Remember folks, the best way to die is singing the Nunc Dimmitis right after seeing the Lord's Salvation (nowadays in Word and Sacraments).

It's still Christmas until Epiphany. I've warned my friends and coworkers that the carols will continue.

My wife got me my first cast iron skillet for Christmas specifically because she thinks I could use another hobby.

"Fixation" was her exact word.

It's ok to pray the imprecatory Psalms against CEOs, but you should pray them against your own sinful flesh first.

The guy who narrates the latest Das Kapital audiobook also narrated Dune and I think that's oddly perfect.

Assassination shows political despair, not political power. Tycoons ought to be tried by courts of the people and fairly sentenced.

The working class is so weak it can only find a grotesque parody of justice in a street shooting.

Just finished Wilson's translation of The Iliad. Phenomenal. Listen to it on audio if you can, or at least read portions out loud.

The idea of “social murder” is super useful, and we need to get comfortable using it. Engels is the best, man - reading him feels like finally acknowledging the obvious reality everyone wants you to ignore

I can't blame people for being unsympathetic after the shooting of United Healthcare's CEO. He was beloved by Jesus, and we must never condone murder. On a tactical level, assassinations are ineffective political strategy as well. Relevant essay:

Excellent essay I read a few years ago. Those punisher skulls and ar-15 silhouettes have a political purpose, and there's a reason why there's no equivalent on the left.
the US's long slide into modern US men's clothing/trucks/etc is part-and-parcel with idealizing a police force that is distant from the populace, that loves faceless guns and blacked-out cars. No more Andys Griffith or Carls Winslow. Shout out to Nate Powell's essential essay.

1. In April 2024, California raised the minimum wage for fast food chains to $20/hour

The industry claimed it would be devastating & require significant job cuts and prices increases

Here is what really happened: workers got a raise, prices went modestly, and the industry continued to add jobs
What really happened after California raised its minimum wage to $20 for fast food workers
What would happen to the fast food industry if it had to pay its workers something closer to a living wage?

Not many people understand the ins and outs of the labor market, but most people understand that workers are paid less than they're worth, and the surplus doesn't go to making the world a better place.
