The agenda setting theory is still relevant, but we are made to feel like we have more control over our feeds. Your feed may explain a topic in a way curated just for you ensuring you like what you see, but this may gatekeep you from seeing things from a different perspective. #UTcommtheory

Sports betting has been pushed by the media to encourage young adults to gamble their money for casinos profits. I see ads for sportsbooks all the time, they even run social media pages designed to entertain and get people’s foot in the door on the topic. #UTcommtheory www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8UjdmD1/

A media personality I have a parasocial relationship with would be Lebron James. From a young age, he has inspired me to work hard, as I’ve been a fan for as long as I can remember. He won a championship for the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016 which brings me joy. #UTcommtheory

The major conglomerate I looked at is Disney, more specifically Marvel Studios. They have released plenty of movies all meant to entertain while simultaneously shaping values and identities of the viewers. Not all the movies have been good, but some have given us heroes to inspire us. #UTcommtheory

One way I experienced context collapse is when I had an Instagram account designated for only my friends, and my family found it and requested to follow it. #UTcommtheory

One way AI has positively impacted my educational experience would be that although it isn’t 100% reliable, it serves as a pretty good way to grammar check papers. #UTcommtheory

An example of assertive assimilation that I’ll provide is parents of Deaf children trying to get them to speak the same as hearing children. Parents may want their kid to fit into the dominant side, but it is more important to help your kids fit in with their own culture and identity. #UTcommtheory

Since it was wet, Boswell slipped to the ground. He is an important part of the team, so due to the teams collectivist culture, teammates and coaches will likely try to uplift him to help save face. For unestablished kickers entering the NFL, it may be a more individualistic dynamic. #UTcommtheory

The decision making approach that works best for me is participation. It is important for everyone to include their opinion. If people don’t voice their wants, it’s likely they’d follow what the most outspoken person in the group wants to do. #UTcommtheory

An organization that could use a culture shift is the NBA. The NBA used to be focused around the team, whereas now it feels more focused around individuals. Players leave their teams left and right, and loyalty in the NBA is a rare sight. They need to become more focused on the teams. #UTcommtheory

An example of cognitive dissonance of mine is that I know I need to save money, but I have started buying energy drinks lately and it adds up quickly. #UTcommtheory

Demonstrating logos A common enthymeme I’ve heard is “he is good at basketball because he is tall”. Although someone’s height may help, a lot of practice and hard work is going to be a big reason for success, height is just one of many factors. #UTcommtheory

I do support the theory of Media Multiplexity Theory. I find myself only sharing posts or communicating on many different medias with those I am closest to. An example would be sharing videos with my girlfriend on Instagram, Tik Tok, texting her, and snapping her, all in one day. #UTcommtheory

An experience I’ve gone through relating to the Communication Privacy Management Theory would be setting privacy boundaries as I got older. When I was a kid, I wanted as many followers as possible, but as I got older I realized I only want people I personally know following me. #UTcommtheory

Axiom #1 can easily be applied to my life, as I began a new job recently and felt my boss did a good job on the training. Verbalizing what needs to be done and how to do it well helped reduce my uncertainty on performing my job. #UTcommtheory

I will use Mark and Helly from Severance to describe openness vs closedness to describe their dialectical tension. When He’ll first arrives at Lumon, she doesn’t trust Mark and schemes against him. Eventually she is able to open herself to him and they begin to scheme together. #UTcommtheory

A time the social penetration theory felt violated for me was when it was my first time working with a coworker and he started talking about his divorce. I didn’t want to be rude, but I didn’t know him well and felt pretty uncomfortable as I had no idea what to really say. #UTcommtheory

Growing up, my family style was consensual. As long as I met their expectations of me, I would have freedom to do what I’d like. For example, my siblings and I were expected to go to college, but one of them didn’t want to, causing some tension. #UTcommtheory

I chose option A to violate an expectation. My girlfriend made a statement to me and I met her with complete silence. She wasn’t mad, but very confused because she knew I could hear her. This tells me she is patient with me and thinks before she lashes out. #UTcommtheory

A time where my “I” and “me” frequently crash is when “I” am not a fan of a food someone made me, but I did not want to appear rude or immature so I ate it anyways “Me”. #UTcommtheory

The cybernetic tradition appealed to me because it is interesting to think about how our brains are essentially supercomputers, always processing and interpreting information. Whether it’s voluntary or involuntary, our brains are always processing info. #UTcommtheory

The testable hypothesis stands out to me as the most important criteria to evaluating a theory. Everything is built off the hypothesis, and although other factors matter, the testable hypothesis feels like the most important criteria to evaluating a theory. #UTcommtheory

A concept of Chapter 3 that stood out to me is scripts. Scripts in communication are like our outlines for every conversation. We are mentally equipped with a script for a variety of situations. Our past experiences allow us to develop scripts.

My favorite theory is probably the theory of behaviorism. Essentially stating how a lot of our behaviors stem from the nurturing we had. This theory is built on informed hunches, so it adheres to Burgoon's definition of a theory. #UTcommtheory
