I briefly mentioned that I’ve started a PhD with Greenwich Uni where I’ll be looking at female gardeners and environmentalists in the long 19th century. Who are the best people to follow here into that topic? Any ideas? #history #victorian #19C #gardening #gardeners #environment 🌱
A new blog is up on my #PhD site takes A Pilgrimage of Paws to St. Albans. A series that's designed to encourage people with dogs to get out and engage with the heritage and history to be found around the country.

Did you know that you can take dogs into
@chicathedral.bsky.social? I only discovered that at the weekend so, of course, I've written a blog about the cathedral, some of its history, and our trip around it.

I don't know if everyone else is knackered as we approach the end of the year, but I am! I wrote a blog with seven ways to combine studying with a hectic life ,as I was thinking about it recently. If it helps anyone, I'd love to know!

It’s Remembrance Sunday, and I recently published a post that looks at Herbert Cowley and the 12th Battalion, London Regiment in WW1. I really enjoyed writing this one so would love people to read it!

Two blogs in two weeks?

My #Remembrance weekend blog just went up. Have a read about Herbert Cowley and the 12th Battalion, London Regiment experience in the First World War and his efforts to find a piece of normalcy in incredibly difficult circumstances. #Phd

Today was a freaking huge #PhD win.

Seven months ago I went to an archive. Today I finished a massive project off the back of it. I can't really talk about it now..but at some point I'll be able to put out into the world what I've done & I can't wait

But now...I'm starting the writing up. #PhDSky
13/100

Had an exciting trip to an #archive this morning checking out both document’s and the wonderful surrounding #garden 🌱

Still new to the academic blog life...I have one planned to publish on Saturday on a Remembrance / World War One topic. When do people think is actually the best time to publish to get as much engagement as possible - should I go earlier? How do people decide when's best? #PhdSky #PhDChat #academic

I'm going to pick one of these suggestions, because I'm currently pretty low vibed when it comes to the #PhD.

Starting Monday I'll 'Reframe what “progress” means'. I'm going to keep a running list of everything I do for the PhD, no matter how small, and will review it at the end of the week!
Doing a PhD can feel like wandering through a forest with no map. You’re constantly questioning whether you’re smart enough, working hard enough or heading in the right direction. If you’re feeling this way, you’re not alone. More importantly, you’re not broken. patthomson.net/2025/10/25/b...

I'm trying to build up my #PhD website (a slow process alongside everything else).

What do other people post about on theirs? If you have something you'd like me to write about on mine I'm happy to hear it too and will try and work it into my plans.

It's the start of #PhD year two, and I'm pretty tired. I don't know if everyone is like this but as a part-time person I don't feel like I ever get holidays from the PhD...do other people observe the academic timetable?

I just constantly feel like I'm not doing enough, and that I'm behind #PhDChat

As a PhD student at Greenwich it wasn’t great comms to get the email informing us well after finishing the BBC article.

Suspect this will create an interesting environment in terms of stability with supervisors over the next few years particularly given the redundancies that just happened…
