Ecology matters: "while drought decreases #mosquito abundances, it paradoxically increases #WNV infection (...) probably stems from reduced water availability, which concentrates mosquitoes and pathogen-amplifying bird hosts around limited water sources"

Let’s just remind ourselves about Farage’s big meal ticket idea again. And no, this isn’t about how the Tories did it, this is just Brexit reality. And Farage would make the deal *even worse*. Pariah status, unreliable, ruined UK howling about immigration and moaning that everything is broken.

New work in Nature shows that a brief 5-day CIP course in (n=60) healthy adults can lead to emergence of AMR in ~10% of ~5600 gut microbial species. Most mutations in gyrA (known FQ hotspots), do not affect fitness & can be detected >10wks (projected to persist >1y)

The key chart right now:

Usually US economic pain is cushioned by falling bond yields and a strengthening dollar, which mean lower interest rates and more spending power for consumers.

This time we’re seeing the opposite, meaning the pain will be amplified.

We have been exploring a bit whether #ClimateChange trends (1980-2019) in some Atlantic #archipelagos may have resulted in changes to climate-based #ecological suitability for #dengue virus - in short, yes; but with relevance only in tropical islands. We will put this and other results out ASAP.

Haven't used Xeeter for 7 months, and today I am purging my footprint. That is 2887 Xeets over the years. You can do the same using Luca Hammer's script.

For ~17y, my research has depended on #Dropbox. As part of a larger effort to skip USA-based soft services and hardware for which I have lost confidence in (e.g. security and ownership) this dependence ended today. From now on, all work, including data, code, and text will be hosted in Europe.
