I'm technically a veteran but have always been ambivalent about my "service" and don't typically claim it as part of my identity — so #VeteransDay is always complicated.

Flashback: A 12-year-old post about a 22-year-old poem about my time in the Army 30+ years ago.

It's bad enough platforming AI grifters who can't give specifics but why does @publisherswkly.bsky.social keep featuring this guy when all of his examples are so objectively bad, he admits it while arguing everyone should embrace AI or die?!? 🤡💩

The trend I reported yesterday remains true, but these numbers are more accurate.

Bluesky, help me out... What would you do about a totally fabricated quote attributed to you in a journal article?

I suspect the author has used GenAI to research their article and it just made this (frankly tortuous) quote up - the article it cites is from 2013! I had no concept of GenAI then.

Insightful episode, esp for trade publishers and self-pub authors with limited marketing experience.

Most niche pubs will nod in agreement with McKee's "know your reader" fundamentals, and Biel's acknowledgement that your connection to readers will change over time. It's an ongoing process.
This week on the pod, Lindsay McKee joins us to talk universal marketing truths & strategies, determining who your customer is (hint: it’s not you!), their needs, and publishing books that fill those needs.

Buckle in, aspiring marketers, for this fun & jargon-lite episode!

I’m glad there’s empirical evidence for this because most teachers can see this happening in real time. We’re losing even more of the human connectedness and empathy building that is an essential part of the educational experience for children.
