Mostly Utah Jazz content, including loud claps, CBA information, and musings from 40+ years of fandom. Also a smattering of travel tales & photos, small business woes, & whatever else strikes my fancy.
Nets lose.
Hornets lose.
Kings lose.
Pelicans lose.

Clippers & Mavericks are playing the "somebody has to win" game of the night. Tied up with 1:24 left.

The Utah Jazz tipped off the first extended road trip of the year with a short flight to the Valley of the Sun. They departed fairly early for such a short flight, arriving in Phoenix early enough to enjoy today's 89° temps. No jacket required!

This is getting ugly. Love & Anderson probably hiding in the tunnel at this point.

Ace Bailey winding up from long distance and nailing that three pointer just earned my first loud clap.of the season.

Just like Tuesday, I was just popping in to watch the last 6 minutes of a Thunder game.

Fool me once....

I didn't even think about this last night, but the Jazz took the short hop from Houston to San Antonio after the loss to the Rockets.

The start of the regular season always feels like Christmas to me.

In contrast, the start of preseason feels like Christmas Eve, when we were allowed to open one gift, but it was always the new pajamas.

It was still fun to open something, but it wasn't the best stuff.

It's that time again!

It's the first flight of the (pre)season, as the Utah Jazz fly to Houston for tomorrow's game against the Rockets.

Goodbye, KJ Martin. We hardly knew you.

Barring a larger, roster-altering move, there's one decision left: what to do with Kevin Love.

If a decent team had offered him a minimum contract, he'd already be gone, so apparently that hasn't happened. Could still happen this week.

You've been kidnapped. The characters from the last TV show you watched are trying to rescue you. Who's coming to save you?

Kyle Filipkowski spinning to the hoop for his 29th & 30th points just earned my first loud clap of the game.

(Loud claps are relatively rare in July.)

It's a beautiful Tuesday night in Cottonwood Heights. The task at hand isn't great, but at least the surroundings are lovely.

This morning I woke up for the first time in my life with no living parents. It's sad, weird, surreal, and yet still sweet, because I know Mom's not suffering any more.

Now every lyric & even the name on my bottle of Diet Coke (Faith) seem to be personal sermons. I'm listening.

My family went FB official with our family's situation last night, so I thought I'd share with my community here as well. If you're wondering why Dan & I have been almost invisible on the socials for the last 10 days, this is why.

Walker Kessler beating everyone down the floor, drawing the foul from Edey & getting the goal tend just earned my first loud clap in quite a while.

There's the answer. Utah bypasses signing a second 10-day contract & just locks Springer down for what sounds like 3 years (the rest of this one plus two more).

I'm guessing the future years are team options and/or lots of non-guaranteed money.
FROM SHAMS:

The Utah Jazz are signing guard Jaden Springer to a three-year deal, agent Chad Speak tells ESPN. The 2021 first-round pick has played in four games since joining Utah.
FROM SHAMS:

Free agent guard Jaden Springer has agreed to a 10-day contract with the Utah Jazz, his agent Chad Speck told ESPN. Springer played in 26 games for the Celtics this season.
March 2, 2025 at 8:39 PM
Jaden Springer's 10-day contract expired at the end of day Saturday. He is still listed in Utah's Game Notes, which could indicate he's expected to sign a 2nd 10-day deal, but that's not official.

Keep an eye out for either a contract signing or no news at all.

The remainder of the Jazz schedule is kind of feast or famine from a home/road perspective:

7 game home stand
5 game road trip
1 home game
1 quick roadie
6 game home stand
5 game road trip
2 final games at home
1 season finale on the road
February 20, 2025 at 7:46 PM
As a 3 year vet (currently in his 4th year), Springer should make $124,288 over the 10-day contract. Utah will pay him $119,972, with the league paying the remainder.

The Clippers just wrapped up a 14-point win over the Grizzlies & are supposed to depart for SLC in an hour. I bet Kawhi sits tomorrow, with Harden, Powell & Zubac TBD. Jazz may rest some guys as well due to the B2B.

The run the Jazz have been on, capped by beautiful ball movement for the open three by Keyonte George just earned my first loud clap in quite a while.

Fast follower loud clap: Lauri for 3, Jazz up 20!

ESPN: "We all know that the L.A. wildfires have displaced so many families, and so many businesses are no longer...erect at the moment."

He thought about it, but he just couldn't come up with another word.

Nobody asked for an accountant's accounting of the Jazz's trade deadline, but @saltcityhoops has it anyway. Second rounders may not be sexy, but it's crazy how little Utah gave up to add 5 of them, plus a young wing they can evaluate for 2 months or more.
