Merry Christmas Eve
Gordon Lightfoot wrote "Song For a Winter's Night" in the sweltering heat of Cleveland, Ohio, in his hotel room following a performance and during a thunderstorm (source: Grokipedia): "According to his biographer Nicholas Jennings, Lightfoot wrote the song in a hotel room amid the oppressive heat and a thunderstorm, feeling homesick for his then-wife, Brita Ingegerd Olaisson, and the serene Canadian winters back home."

Hello! We're stuck in the deep freeze here in Alberta. I set a pan of candy outside to cool yesterday. I needed to wear oven mitts to retrieve it from inside the deck to avoid the dangerous burning sting of the cold metal pan. As a sometimes writer, I find myself not only stuck in the cold of winter but in a new world where everything I post to the internet is food used by corporations to grow an insatiable, unpredictably evolving artificial intelligence.

Engaged in this project, students become reporters and survivors of the Frank Slide. They research and create a video of an interview or a news article about Canada's deadliest rock slide that buried part of Frank, Alberta, in 1903.
