Tried ChatGPT for some exploratory literature review. I've admittedly found it incredibly good at synthesizing and explaining topics. But when I asked it for the top publications, it listed one by a well-known scientist. Except the title was made up. And the DOI was to a totally different paper...
Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

Like I've said before, if you have any doubts about climate change, just go to a super-boring insurance conference and listen to the super-boring panels where they dryly talk about the growing threat of disasters so catastrophic and unpredictable in scope they simply cannot be insured at any price.
Wild how the Fed chair saying that *entire regions of the United States* won’t be able to get a mortgage in the next decade barely registered as a news event

I probably wasn't paying proper attention to the forecast, but I was not anticipating strong thunderstorms constantly from midnight through 7AM (plus tornado warnings yesterday evening?).

I am 😴😩😒 this morning.

I'm sorry, but this ESPN commentary is insanely vapid and trite.

"It's gonna come down to both teams' offense, but also their defense" is insight on par with "the election's going to be determined by who turns out to vote."

The Senate version of the BBB now increases new federal employees' pension contribution from 4.4% (was just 0.8% pre-2013) to 14.4% (!!!), OR "only" 9.4% if they agree to be at-will employees who can be fired at any time without cause. That'll be sure to attract the best folks to federal service. 😐
