Building a welcoming community where immigrants thrive

We connect newcomers with resources, unite communities, and share stories that matter—working to make London & Middlesex a place where everyone belongs.
It's both Latin American Heritage Month (federal) and Hispanic Heritage Month (Ontario). Did you know they aren't the same?

"Hispanic" refers to Spanish-speaking origins. "Latin American" is geographic, including all countries in the region, like Brazil.

Diego carries one thought with him through every challenge: "Since you have life, you're still alive, good things will happen."
He didn't finish the studies he planned. He worked jobs he hated. But instead of dwelling on what didn't happen, he asks: "What can you do?"

"I'm always scared," Diego says. "But it's just okay, do it. If no one else can do it, just do it."
He never sang in public before becoming a karaoke host. Now he sings salsa, bachata, boleros, rancheras, and his beloved rock en español.

When people think "Latin music," they often think salsa and merengue. But Diego loves rock en español. So do thousands of others in London's Latin community.
The problem? There was nowhere to hear it, nowhere to celebrate it.
So Diego created that space himself.

Diego came to London for his wife's education in 2016. Today he's staying for his son—and the vibrant Latin community he helped build at Casa Latina.
"I just think about what I can do, and I do it."
That's how you build a city. 🎵🏡

Diego Chiluisa came to London for his wife's research opportunity. He couldn't pursue formal education as planned. So he taught himself coding, created custom karaoke content, and built Latin music spaces at Casa Latina.

Diego came to London for his wife's education. Stayed to build something better: a space for ALL Latin music — rock, soul, not just salsa stereotypes.
His dream: Latin Rock concert in London.

Immigrant women in London: often overqualified, usually underemployed. Doctor → PSW. Teacher → retail. Engineer → gig work. Not because they lack skills—because Canada won't recognize them. This Women's History Month, let's fix that. #ImmigrationMatters #LdnOnt
