The Trump administration has halted $1 billion in funding for mental health services for children, claiming that the programs, which were established under a bipartisan law aimed at curbing gun violence in schools, are no longer in “the best interest of the federal government.”

I read a description of prayer as “standing naked before God.” Think about that. God sees us, hears us, knows us, loves us just as we are. No human being on earth has the authority to affect our identity with the stroke of a pen. We stand naked before God in prayer, unconditionally loved.

Each morning I give thanks that my favorite oak is still here. So much is in danger of being toppled: old oaks and even democracy. I do what I can to defend this oak as the woods are destroyed, urging the developer to recognize what will be lost if such a strong, old tree is carelessly uprooted.

To come into effect, the constitutional amendment would need to be formally published or certified by the National Archivist who has declined to do so in the past. What happens now is unclear.
