"My experience has been that patients who are referred to upper GI with biliary colic go on to receive an cholecystectomy without exception, which leads me to question the rigour of the process."

Does that sound ok? Nope. So why is ADHD somehow different???

Why on earth would “huge swathes of people” want to seek a diagnosis and “potentially harmful drugs” unless they actually thought they would benefit from them? Could it be, instead, that ADHD is underdiagnosed and that investment and support is desperately needed?

Most specialist services follow up the patient while medicines are being titrated, but once right doses have been found discharge the patient to GP. Many GPs don’t feel confident w/ responsibility for this care lacking training&expertise.

My concern isn’t the overdiagnosis, it’s the undersupport.

In autism research, in the autistic community we talk a lot about stigma. We don’t often talk about the personal impact of that stigma, which is shame. That’s the overarching theme of my research with autistic psychiatrists and it’s a tough topic to address. But we need to talk about this. #AutRes

Depression can be a smile or a laugh.
It can be arriving at work well-dressed and on time.

Depression can be using every ounce of your energy to get through the day.

So...
When someone tells you they're OK,
Ask again,
And listen.

Thank you for sharing such a well written and thought provoking paper - I have lost count of the number of times I’ve been asked the questions at the end. Looking forward to directing people here when I’m next asked.
