I think they Dems won the shut down battle. They now have several potent issues for the midterms including the President doing all in his power to stop food assistance for the hungry. It could not go on any longer without real harm for people who need that food assistance.

The Senate D 8 may have made a good political move. If they actually fixed the problem, then they save the Republicans from themselves. Now they hang the higher premium costs on the Repubs for the next year. Hopefully everyone stays angry and the House, maybe the Senate flips. Hopefully.

Trump's new book will be called the Art of the Shakedown. That is what he does best. He learned it from the mob.He uses only the stick and not the carrot. He is the big boss in control of the whole world. He revels in humiliating his opponents. The price for allowing this will be our democracy.

Hilary Clinton has to be feeling a bit vindicated. Comey was the reason she lost.

Is anyone struck by the irony of Trump ordering the indictment of James Comey. But for Comey, Trump would not have won the 2016 election imo. Announcing the reopening of the Clinton investigation and keeping the Russia investigation secret helped Trump. If only Comey had treated them the same.

Last night I sat talking to my grandchild in kindergarten. She describes how they practice lockdowns at school and proud of herself because she knows what to do. I don't think she knows the exact reason for the lockdown and I hope she does not have to use this new found skill.

I don't want to see Obama or any other innocent person prosecuted but the defense would have a mountain of counter evidence that would incriminate Trump and his Russian supporters.

Fox news keeps up the drum beat of prosecuting a long list of Democrats and government officials. We all know that will not happen because they dont have any evidence and no attorney who cares about his law license will bring a criminal prosecution against any of those people. Truth is their defense

Boycott Trump's birthday parade. Don't protest. Stay home. Or if you must go watch stand silently with a sign expressing outrage at the waste of money.

Hey George Conway, thank you for watching out for the DC Bar election and raising awareness of it's importance. You did good.

What if a lot of people who have been the subject of Trumps name calling and defamation actually started sueing him in large numbers in his private capacity. They should use the same strategy he is using against the media and universities. If nothing else, it might make him shut up a bit more.

Lawyers tell clients dont guess when answering a deposition. It is not a test of memory.A wrong answer is worse than not remembering. Most of us would answer with I don't remember when being deposed. I have forgotten more than most people because I knew more. You can be forgetful and still be wise.

As an old person I am getting pissed at the ageism underlying the recent analysis of Biden's health. So what if he needed to be in a wheel chair.Texas governor is in a wheel chair and so was FDR. So what if in a deposition he said he could not remember. Everyone does that in depositions. Its safe.

I smell a Musk. Was Carla Hadyn fired for protecting intellectual property rights from being stolen for development of AI? Were certain billionaires going to use copyrighted material for their AI purposes? Did she try to stand in the way? These questions need to be answered.

Trump uses extortion to get what he wants. Getting Abrego Garcia home is very simple. Cut off the flow of U.S. taxpayer money to El Salvador. Not another penny until he and all the others are where they belong, either here or in their home country. Abrego Garcia will be on the next plane to Md.

Trump and Rubio plan to close the *entire* State Department division covering Africa, and close *all* US embassies south of the Sahara.

Just insane. They’ll be drinking champagne in Beijing and Moscow tonight.

Does anyone know if we are sending either financial or technical assistance to Myanmar or Thailand to help rescue earthquake survivors?

I think we under estimate the power of gerrymandering. The Republican state legislatures have locked in Republican control of seats for a generation. This is identity politics at its worst because they will not vote for a Democrat no matter how much that might agree with policies.

Since Congress is doing so little, I think we need to start a movement to shut them down for at least a month and freeze all spending on Congress for that month including salaries and travel reimbursement for both Members and staff. That might wake them up to the pain they are causing others.

I suspect Trump will not be welcome in the UK for the planned state visit. If he shows up there the Brits will protest and throw him out of the country. They know a coward when they see one and they learned the lesson of Neville Chamberlain.

Congress must take a budget cut as well. To ask the American people to take cuts but to not take one was well is unacceptable. Time to demand that Congress do more with less.

As things start to happen, hold lawyers accountable when they act in a manner that is unethical or illegal by filing complaints with the bar association in the state where they are licensed. Lawyers are supposed to be held to a high ethical and legal standard and that my be the only way to enforce.

Lawsuits filed against the government name the Secretary or agency head, not the President. Those people are not necessarily immune from prosecution. So a criminal contempt order can be enforced against them within the statute of limitations which might be under a future President. Just an idea.
