Read the speech from
@bphillipsonmp.bsky.social at a Westminster event for the schools sector this evening.

It includes a commitment to not "shy away" from complex reform, "SEND especially".

When “adaptive teaching” first became a “thing”, I recognised it as something I’d been doing for years with learners with SpLDs. Good pedagogy is good pedagogy. Let’s empower teachers to not see SEND as a bolt on and embed high quality teaching within our universal provision. Great article 👇🏼
Experts say 'the characteristics of good pedagogy for children with SEND aren’t all that different from good pedagogy, full stop'. So, if that’s the case, why isn’t everyone already doing it?

Here, we investigate the four key issues that could be holding inclusive practice back ⬇️

Sure Start was one of the best things this country ever invested in:

“The IFS found the positive impacts of Sure Start were widespread and “remarkably long lasting”, producing better health, education and social care outcomes for families”

The dismantling of it is a national disgrace.

Great discussion around teachers knowing the principles of assessment such as reliability & validity. I spend time checking these things for standardised assessments; however, we really do need to apply these principles just as stringently when planning formative assessment. #Assessment #eBook

Great article; it’s so important that we are clear about the purpose of any assessment and how it will underpin practice. Also, “Ethical assessment practices involve informing students of the purpose of the test” - couldn’t agree more.

Gender equality doesn’t just 'happen.'

Women’s rights must be fought for and protected.

Our responsibility is clear.

To lead by example and create a world where opportunities are fair for all.

Time to unwind after a busy week. The highlight being 2 days of fantastic CPD from @teachlikeachamp.bsky.social

It was really good to spend time with colleagues thinking about how we can apply certain strategies within the different contexts across our Trust.

Have a great weekend everyone! 🫶🏼

If the SENCo has to answer about Inclusion in mainstream schools, then we not really trying to gain inclusion.

The SENCo will need to be an important voice in the conversation but we need to see inclusion as the outcome of all the policies.

The school is an institution, but the SENCO is a human being!

Amid the ongoing SEND crisis, which has been scrutinised and consulted on countless times, certain groups often find themselves bearing the brunt of the blame. The top three typically singled out are SENCOs, parents, and schools.1/n

A really great post. It’s essential that we carefully monitor the impact of the support we have in place to ensure it’s useful.
Is it Useful?
Arguing about identification and diagnosis is going about things the wrong way.
Rather than "is it real?" we should ask "is it useful?"
