In the open. And something in him wants him to run there. How would they all react if he did? If he said fuck it and crushed their lips together and pulled his hips to his and did it all at a festival amassing over one hundred thousand people? He’d do it. He’s tired, and he’d do it. Is he also tempted to rip through the crowd and do something he might regret? The thought makes Louis’ insides flutter. He can’t wait. “What’s going on?” Lottie asks when he pockets his phone. “This is the biggest I’ve seen you smile since Soccer Aid.” Lewis nods. “I know this has nothing to do with a certain blonde woman.” “You would be correct,” Louis says, pulling back his shoulders and grinning up at the stage. The drummer is smashing the drums, garnering a wild reaction from the people at the barricade, and the lead singer is banging his head without a break. If Louis did that, he’d pull a muscle. Part two of the snippet: “Okay, so what is it?” asks Lottie. “I didn’t tell you this before,” he begins, leaning in as they do the same—nice, way to look suspicious—and peeks over his shoulder to make sure no one’s listening—“Harry’s here.” Two sets of eyes bulge at him. “What?!” Lottie says too loudly. Louis shushes her. “Yeah. He’s here, and I want to see him. So . . . cover for me, all right?” Lewis looks at Lottie, who scrubs a hand over her face with a sigh. “You two are so annoying.” “Maybe, but you love us.” “I do”—she prods him in the chest with her newly manicured finger—“which is why I’m telling you this is an awful idea. What if people see you together?” “Yeah, Louis, it’s risky,” Lewis chimes in. “This isn’t some small festival, and if”—he lowers his voice—“Harry’s here, fans are already talking about it.” “They probably expect a photo. You know how larries get.” Louis shrugs. “Well, they won’t get one. Probably. Maybe. We’ll see what I decide to do when I’m sloshed tonight.” “Louis.” “I’m kidding,” he says with a laugh. Half-kidding. “Please? Do this for your favorite brother?” She doesn’t look impressed. “You’re my only brother.” “Details.”
