Why does Starfleet Academy look like a mall? And are we supposed to believe they built it on the ground? Can Star Trek stop pretending they would build massive spaceships on planets or land them on planets? TOS never did this.

I understand AI is supposed to be evil, but I mostly view it as a tool. I am currently running a test to see how it does checking part of a novel for Chicago style. It will track all changes. It was told not to rewrite anything. How is that different from Word’s spelling and grammar checker?

I’ve been editing a novel for a client. Hours of sitting, scrolling, commenting, cutting, rewriting, etc. I miss pencil edits.

Watched E1 of #StarFleetAcademy and was really put off by the depiction of Star Fleet treating prisoners so violently. I think it needed more context, in that, after the Burn, even the Federation struggled to remain civilized and not sink into barbarism.

This is your reminder that Hungarian-Jewish scientist George de Hevesy dissolved two Nobel Prizes in aqua regia to keep them out of the hands of the Nazis.

He then left the dissolved solution on his shelf and fled to Sweden.

(After the war he un-dissolved the gold and the prizes were re-cast.)

So I finally got through the last season of Stranger Things. It was meh, but I don’t see what all the upset is about. It’s been struggling for a while. Nice that some of the younger actors got bigger roles.

Pulled into a crowded parking lot and a teenager driving a Range Rover was parked diagonally, taking up two spaces. Typical arrogant teen behavior because they are unlikely to be late getting home to their kids and just want to pick up dinner. Folks, teach your kids to park thoughtfully.

Is Anderson Cooper in Minneapolis and, if not, why not? Every serious investigative reporter should be all over ICE right now.

Amazing. Good for him. He may be the only person standing up against Trump.

Sorry, but Andor S2 is a slog. There, I said it.

Looks like ICE is now cracking down on … Native Americans.

This letter was just posted by the chairman of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in North/South Dakota:

“Our Nation is a sovereign government and our members are not immigrants. We are not subject to immigration enforcement on our own lands.”

We evacuated our kids out of Minneapolis this weekend and my spouse reports that as she drove them out of town she saw "multiple freeway exits where people are being pulled over." It feels like the Twin Cities is being subjugated by a hostile occupying force.

We got new carpet and I think I’m going to need an Rx for anti-anxiety meds, because I’m so worried about it getting stained.

What’s the point of a 1-5 customer service survey where 3 is “Very Good” and 1 is “Poor?” So 2 (unlabeled) is “Good,” I guess. So my car dealer gets almost all 2s. I’m sure heads will roll.

ICE are to the 2026 US government as Brownshirts were to the 1939 Nazi government.

Is this our Kent State moment?

Straight up murder. Every ICE agent needs to be immediately stood down. They are untrained and dangerous.
Google the video & see for yourself.

This is not law enforcement. This is murder.

Sickening.

Slept terrible last night because it was too cold. Had to turn the heat on from my phone to get the room warm enough that I could get out of bed.

I started watching Transplant on Peacock TV and am surprised how often I find it genuinely moving. And if you watch on a computer, as I do, the ad blocker keeps the commercials at bay.

First day back on the school schedule and I’m toast. It’s so hard to get up by 7 after two weeks of sleeping late.

If the US holds Venezuela, we will seize 17% of oil -- yesterday's technology. If China uses this precedent to take Taiwan, it will own 60% of semiconductors -- tomorrow's technology. See what happens when you elect evil & stupid at the same time?

It is so annoying to me that good Chinese food to hard to find in North County San Diego. Expensive and too greasy is easy to find, but if I’m gonna get that, I could just go to Panda Express!

Every Trump pardon should be investigated for bribery. And when it is found, the pardon should be overturned. Not sure that’s ever been done, but it should be.

About 30 years ago, someone told me that a “current” computer would always be $2K. It annoys me that he was right.
