I’m not into hard enough science to guarantee job prospects (Medicine, civic/mech/elec. Engineering, IT, Cybersecurity, Actuarial Science), but I’m also not soft enough to forgive myself the mistakes and sacrifices along the way 😪

I chose to do a STEM bachelors as I thought it would improve my job prospects
- couldn’t get a job in my field ended up in unregulated pseudo education
Chose to do a masters in STEM because it couldn’t hurt
-2 yrs on still no job in my field + hiring freezes + economy bad
Now what?

Trying to make new friends unemployed is so 🥴. Like yes, I have an advanced degree, no it does not seem to help my employability at all. Oh, I actually have less of an idea of what career I would like to do than ever before in my life. Please don’t ask me how many applications I’ve sent I will cry.

After five years living in the EU I’d safely posit that the relative dearth of investment into social services and community wellbeing in the USA leads to the deterioration of the social contract because why would people buy in for no guaranteed benefit?

So I’m talking to a guy about how I’ve read 45 books and counting this year and he was like “oh I’ve read 6” and asked for a rec. His response to my rec was “thanks I’ve never heard of that one”. Buddy the tonnage of books I could have suggested that you haven’t heard of could stun an Ox calm down
