Charles Person, who was the youngest of the Freedom Riders in 1961, has passed away at age 82.

With his passing, Hank Thomas is the last remaining of the original Freedom Riders.

Business Insider asked me to write about packing to evacuate, how in that terrifying moment, all that mattered was finding the pictures of my birth mother. She died 29 years ago today, and today, they published the essay. Can't think of a better way to honor her than sharing this story. #LosAngeles
During the Los Angeles fires, I had minutes to pack my emergency bag. I took the few photos I have of my birth mother.
I only had a few minutes to pack my emergency bag when the LA fires crept close to my house. I had to pack photos of my birth mother, who I never met.
