Endlessly curious about the stories of our ancestors, often found in a muddy field or looking into the past. Archaeology. Family history. Lifelong learning. Walking. SW coast. Night sky. Nature. My garden. French wine.

Sarah has found a Late Iron Age midden deposit, containing quite a lot of pottery, in the upper levels of her ditch section

She is happy 😊

An unusual find from our predominantly Iron Age site is this fragment of polished Neolithic axe which Jo has recovered from the top of a ditch section

Nice 🤩

Discussing strategy for the rest of the day

Lots of ditches, pits and assorted blobby features to investigate whilst the rain holds off

Just had a fantastic few days excavating with Time Team at Sutton Hoo! 🏺 Thrilled to uncover new finds, learn from experts, and connect with history beneath Suffolk soil. Grateful, inspired and already counting the days until the next dig! #TimeTeam #SuttonHoo #DigLife

In trench 6, our wonderful fieldschool students have been finding and revealing wall foundations and boundaries in the robber cuts! As the foundations of walls are becoming easier to spot, we are beginning to wonder how all these walls were connected when the manor house was still standing!

An aerial photo, courtesy of Harry Manley and his magic drone, of the #Durotriges25 trench

Lots of archaeology (especially ditches) showing up cut into the natural white chalk geology

We've got lots to do!

I’ve been over the county border into Devon this weekend to Hope Cove. A wonderful weekend of sea air, glorious views along the SW coast path, and up to Bolt Tail Iron Age promontory hillfort. There’s a single rampart here that goes right across the headland with an entrance in the middle
