Did you know that all of the tables in our main reading room were made by a local artist out of trees from the original building site?

Shoutout to Treincarnation for crafting pieces that are truly stunning at all hours, and especially when sunlight comes through the clerestory windows.

Question: Now that NaNoWriMo is gone (RIP 😭), are people still planning on doing National Novel Writing Month this November?

And, more importantly, who would be interested in a midnight write-in at the library on November 30 to get that final wordcount??

#WorldBookDay is 365 days/year in our library, but we hope that the rest of the world is picking up a book today to celebrate, too 📚

Come visit us to browse and check out something that looks interesting ... maybe un libro nuevo en español, or a title for Arab American Heritage Month?

We love our local independent bookstores!

Pro tip: You don't have to choose between libraries and bookstores. This is a «¿Por qué no los dos?» situation (why not both?).
Independent Bookstore Day is this Saturday 4/26! The metro is your best friend during the crawl :) Download this metro-friendly bookstore map and plan out your crawl! Get a prize (hint hint...t-shirts, totes etc.) at your final stop. #dcbookcrawl

Today is #NationalLibraryWorkersDay 📚

We stand in solidarity with Library Workers impacted by IMLS cuts, state & local legislation intended to suppress freedom of speech, & movements to ban or restrict access to works of literature & scholarship.

Your work is meaningful. Thank you for doing it.

If you don't have a library card (also: come get a library card!) there are some great resources online with no paywalls so you can geek out on American #filibuster history.

Case in point: Project Gutenberg's full text of "By-Ways of War: The Story of the Filibusters" by James Jeffrey Roche

This year is the 150th anniversary of the poet Rainer Maria Rilke's birth. He wrote so many beautiful things, but these words feel timely more than 120 years later:
