I feel like if you are disabled, or have family members who are disabled, currently it’s a fight for survival . It shouldn’t feel like this, it really should not.

Guess who's back? Back again.

Booky's back. Tell a friend.

#BookyMcBookface is back on the road for the first time in 2025. Today he is in Orphir and Stenness, so go along and borrow some books! 📚

Also accessible does not take into account invisible disabilities.

9. Little will be achieved by ‘activating’ disabled people, even with the best quality employment support, if the jobs available to them are inaccessible due to the number of hours, the intensity of pace and inflexibility of location.

Can flexible job design help people with fluctuating disabilities?
In this blog piece, Catherine Hale outlines the early findings of a new study exploring the flexible working practices in the post-COVID era and their impact on disability employment outcomes.

I love life but I think I should be able to decide when I die

Always join in. It's the fun bit of being a parent. Plus you get to steal the popcorn.

Today is thst darkest of anniversaries, 13 years since I took a call from the desk asking me to check out a report that Gary Speed, the football hero, my friend, was dead. I’ll never forget that morning.
My thoughts are with those closest to him on this awful anniversary.
Talk to someone.

You're a hero.

And it already happens. What also happens is job offers they can't get to, or courses they're not interested in etc They need to make it work for the people who need help before threatening to put people into poverty.

I'd love that.

"English just doesn't play fair does it?"

My 9 year old with dyslexia when he's finished his spelling and literacy homework.

Not much I can say to that.
November 21, 2024 at 6:47 PM
So frustrating. His classmate has dyslexia and my son was shocked that they have totally different resource trays. He's only heard from school dyslexia = can't read, write or spell.
November 19, 2024 at 3:11 PM
Yep. Last year it was a focus on writing, now spelling. Ignoring support he needs in areas like audio processing, following instructions, organisation - the list seems to grow the older he gets.
November 19, 2024 at 2:19 PM
Apparently as my son's spelling has improved he hasn't been considered for a slot with his learning support teacher. Because apparently we all know that dyslexia is measured by spelling alone... This argument is so last year! Exhausting.

They should've done it properly. We're really lucky here, with the local farm shops so you can see the work into produce you're getting. But a fairer system is needed, top to bottom. We need farms so a little time to get it right is better than protests.
November 19, 2024 at 2:09 PM
Flip side is lots of local farmers near us which are family owned and run. Have been for generations. Not sure preventing them from being passed down while rich twits like Duke of Westminster escape taxes is a winner.
