Bubble Bobble (C64)
While I'm geeking out about cool loaders on the C64, "Bubble Bobble" on disk had a cool fuel-gauge type of thing that always impressed me. But you had to have the original disk. I don't think any of the hackers/crackers cared to replicate the fancy loader. 😊

Lords of Midnight cassette loader (C64)
It must have been a few weeks since I mentioned the cool tape loader for Mike Singleton's "Lords of Midnight", which shows off its excellent 3D landscaping engine.
It's quite a mesmerising effect. I should have tried it back when I had access to weed. 😋

Galaga (arcade)
A timeless arcade game, this one. Love the bug aliens and their curvy attack patterns. The idea of being able to get your ship captured and getting it back to wield the powerful double-ship is also inspired. 🐝
Ten out of ten. Would challenge-stage again.

I don't think local planning authorities give serious consideration to the health and safety concerns of time-travelling ninja's in their sewer systems. 🤔

Timber (arcade)
Timber is an adorable game, with well drawn cartoon-style high-resolution sprites — it uses the same hardware as Tapper and Spy Hunter. An early implementation of two player simultaneous game-play, which it says in large friendly letters. 😊
It's just.. less exciting in one-player.

What more could a gamer ask for? 😊
Using parallax to do a platform game from above was a genius move.

C64 in Amiga in Windows .. in Windows? 🤔
So here's to that time I realised I could take Windows 10 PC, load up the virtual Windows XP machine in VirtualBox, boot the virtual Workbench 3.1 Amiga in WinUAE, and play High Noon on the virtual C64 in Magic64.
I enjoyed that. 😊

Oh sure, you may have visited Maniac Mansion.
But did you ever Day of the Tentacle?
Lucas Arts did an excellent job of returning to the mansion, with some top notch voice acting and animation.

Mission AD (C64)
Got the reaction times of an twitchy teenager? You too can be an assassin in Mission AD! Hunting down terrorists before they can do their terrorific things.
Actually it's quite approachable by yer average gamer. It's just hard to dodge all those bullets flying about. 😊

Ghostbusters (C64)
"Ghostbusters! Mwa-hahahaha!" 👻
Another excellent Activision game from the coding hands of David Crane. They knew the important things we wanted in this game: "He slimed me!", Mr Staypuft, driving in the hearse, and zapping/trapping ghosts.

Scramble really was quite influential at the time. Every home computer of the era had one or several versions of scramble made for it. There was a recent (2021) remake for the C64 called Scramble Infinity that I'm particularly fond of. Gorgeous graphics and music. 😎

Mama pig must ride the gondola and defeat them with her bow and arrow.

3D Pinball (C64)
Most 8 bit pinball games did the simple top-down view. But you could still feel it struggle to keep up with the ball calculations.
3D Pinball (AKA Pinball Power) manages to do a little faux-3D trickery while keeping the game-play beautifully quick-paced. 😎

The youth of today don’t know those stressful times when you’re doing *so* well on {insert-game-title-here}, but you have to pause to switch the TV to watch Buck Rogers.. But it’s on a channel the computer strongly interferes with.

Raid Over Moscow (C64)
Probably obvious to say, but: Raid Over Moscow is still a great game. It makes liberal use of "well that doesn't make sense" 8-bit game logic. But it's like Independence Day. Just switch off your critical thoughts and you'll enjoy it more. 😊

The Hobbit (C64 disk) 💾
And lets not forget that there's a *disk* version of The Hobbit too. For years I'd seen screen-shots of the fancier graphics of the disk version and assumed it was bitmap graphics. But no! They're vector, like the graphics of the tape version. Just a lot more detailed.

Operation Wolf (C64)
This is where the rare option for mouse control really comes in handy: a cross-hair shooter.
Operation Wolf was never going to translate perfectly to the C64. But they've done a sterling job, with large sprites and the iconic vertical split screen, which isn't easy to do. 😎

The book "The Hobbit" was read to me in primary school when I was around ten. I'd never heard Tolkien or any fantasy world story before and I was fascinated by it. Then my family shifted house when the party was at Beorn's great hall and I needed to know the rest!

Arkanoid 2 (C64)
The latest version of C64emu introduced basic 1351 mouse support, so I had to try it out. Feels like it could do with a tweak in sensitivity, but my "arkanoidability", as we like to call it 😉 was way up over yer basic joystickery.
If only I was better at breakout-type games.

It's quite possible some of y'all have never tried the budget platformer "Big Mac: The Mad Maintenance Man". That would be a deficiency in your upbringing. Fix it now.
