Wildfires are making glaciers retreat faster, but not how you might think.

Instead of the heat from the flames melting the glacier, the smoke is darkening the snow and ice. This causes the glacier surface to absorb more energy from the sun and melt faster.

i'm trying to think of why i'm so pleased with how Indigenous people were included in Sinners when the Choctaw were there so briefly and I think I've mostly landed on bc it feels like an act of solidarity to be included in the landscape of America and represented like sensible people
