For us at @leibnizfli.bsky.social, the number 30 has a special meaning: it is the age at which the human brain reaches full maturity – a milestone that celebrates growth, wisdom, and self-discovery. Aging is not only the loss of potential, but its transformation.

PostDoc Circle Invites ➡️

Prof. Dr. Steffen Pockes from the @uniregensburg.bsky.social, Germany, has spoken on September 4, 2025, @leibnizfli.bsky.social about the "New therapeutic approaches for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias".

Here you can find our interview:🎤 bit.ly/486JeZH
FLI Postdoc Circle Invites - Prof. Dr. Steffen Pockes
In the FLI Postdoc Circle Prof. Pockes from the University of Regensburg spoke about "New therapeutic approaches for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias" on September 4 at the Leibniz Institute on Aging - Fritz Lipmann Institute (FLI). In his talk titled “New therapeutic approaches for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias”, Prof. Pockes gave insights into his work on preclinical drug development in the field of neurodegenerative diseases. His research group is focused on the exploration of innovative drugs targeting the enzyme caspase-2 and orphan GPCRs such as GPR3, which are associated with neuronal degeneration and cognitive decline. These studies present a valuable complement to the expertise in aging research and modeling of age-related diseases at the FLI, which opens up great opportunities regarding the functional validation of new targets, the application of age-relevant in vivo models and the translation of preclinical results towards clinical relevance – all contributing substantially to the development of targeted therapies against dementia. Prof. Pockes was honored with the Innovation Award Medicinal Chemistry in 2022, the DFG Heisenberg Professorship in 2024, and his research has been published in several top-ranked journals.
