Lee Dillon MP for Newbury
@leedillonmp.bsky.social
Liberal Democrat MP for Newbury. Passionate about housing, the NHS, and supporting local communities.
Hundreds of people have written to me about online harms. That’s why Lib Dems are calling for film-style age ratings for social media, and why I have stepped away from X.
Children’s safety must come before big tech profits.

Yesterday I led a Westminster Hall debate on Horse and Rider Road Safety.
Too many riders and horses are still being put at risk on our roads.
I’ll keep pushing for better awareness, clearer rules, and safer infrastructure.

Tomorrow I’ll be speaking in Parliament in a Westminster Hall debate on horse and rider road safety.
Too many near misses. Too many injuries. This has to change.

People were rightly furious with the Conservative Party for plunging the NHS into this crisis. Now they are fed up with Labour for letting things get worse on their watch.

We must tackle the crisis in A&E.

Today in Parliament, I pressed the Housing Secretary on quality of new homes.
Building more homes matters, but they must be safe and well-built.

Only 60% of developers are signed up to the New Homes Ombudsman. That’s not good enough. It should be mandatory.

I’ve secured a Westminster Hall debate on Horse & Rider Road Safety on 14 January, 4.30pm-5.30pm.
We need safer roads for horses and riders. 3,118 incidents in 2024. Most are caused by drivers passing too fast or too close. Ask your MP to join the debate.

On Monday, I spoke in Westminster about the family farm tax. The Government’s increase of the threshold to £2.5m is welcome, but many family farms in Newbury & West Berkshire still face crippling inheritance tax bills.

Trump’s strikes on Venezuela breach international law. Starmer refuses to call it out. The UK Govt must publish legal advice. Britain must uphold the rule of law.

A huge thank you to everyone working over the festive period to keep us safe and supported - including the NHS, emergency services, care workers, and volunteers across Newbury and West Berkshire. Your dedication is greatly appreciated.

Housing and protecting nature shouldn’t be seen as opposing goals. That’s why I voted against the Planning & Infrastructure Bill at Third Reading. Nature matters to our health, well-being and future. More: leedillon.co.uk/post/protecting-nature-shouldn-t-be-an-obstacle-to-housing

I’ve been contacted by many residents about problems with Evri deliveries at this very busy time of year, including parcels not arriving or going missing. I’ve raised these concerns with Evri and am trying to engage with the local team. More: www.leedillon.co.uk/post/evri-de...

With fresh questions being raised about the Government’s Chagos Islands Treaty, it’s clear there is still a serious lack of transparency around cost, security and the rights of the Chagossian people.

It’s #SmallBusinessSaturday. I’m proud to support the campaign highlighting the importance of our high streets. Shopping local keeps them vibrant and at the heart of our communities. #SmallBizSatUK #ShopLocal

The Government has doubled down on the harmful family farm tax, and it puts treasured farms here in Newbury and West Berkshire at real risk. This is not good news.

Two important wins today: the two-child benefit cap will be scrapped, and British horseracing gets the support it needs — a real boost for Newbury.

Still lots more to fight for, but this is progress for families and our local economy.

Today is Budget Day.

The Lib Dems are calling for an emergency plan to help households & high streets now, tackle the cost-of-living crisis, & get our economy growing again over the next 18 months.

I want the UK to succeed, that starts with supporting people & communities.

I’m in Trafalgar Square with farmers ahead of the Budget announcement, talking about the rural economy and inheritance tax.
These issues matter hugely to Newbury and West Berkshire, and I’ll keep making sure our rural communities are heard.

Great to visit St Finian’s Catholic Primary School in Cold Ash. Always a pleasure to meet pupils and staff and hear about the brilliant work happening in our local schools.

Yesterday, I raised the urgent need for the UK to increase humanitarian aid to Gaza & the West Bank.

123,000 pregnant women are facing severe malnutrition, inadequate medical care & rising risks to themselves & their babies.

Great to see 49 schools & groups across Newbury + West Berkshire taking part in #UKParliamentWeek

It’s a brilliant opportunity for young people to learn about democracy, ask questions & get involved.

Looking forward to hearing from all taking part!

This week’s Budget matters for Newbury & West Berkshire.

Families need real cost-of-living support.
Our NHS needs investment.
Schools need proper SEND funding.
Farmers & rural communities need a fair deal.
And our chalk streams need protection.

It was great to host the 'This is Farming' drop-in event in Parliament, bringing farmers and rural organisations into the heart of Westminster.
Their voices are vital in shaping policies that support our countryside and those who feed the nation.

It is always an honour to join our community in remembering those who served and sacrificed for our country.

We must never forget their sacrifice.

We will remember them.
