Total local history map nerd stuff here but I just discovered the Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal apparently had an arm that stretched all the way up Oldfield Road to what's now Chapel Street.
It must have been filled in and the Oldfield Road Dwellings built on top later on.

I cannot overstate how having a gym on the doorstep has improved my attendance rate. No matter how tired or rubbish I feel, there’s just no barrier to popping there and doing a bit of something. Even if it’s just a 25 minute without.
