The entire country needs to take a 1-week dopamine detox from social media and see a) if we can do it or have a true addiction b) if everyone snaps out of their respective ideological stupors like the grownups waking up from their spell-induced dance trance at the end of Hocus Pocus.

New Substack post on "Muse Meets Machine," in which I outline my process of creating a more detailed report explaining a16z's latest list of the Top 50 Gen AI Web Products, and then provide the report. Spoiler alert: this took me one million hours.

To all of our incredible #teachersky #edusky #educators: If you have any input, suggestions or requests, I'd love to create something that serves you! Thanks for doing what you do 🙏

Question for my #teachers out there: I'm working on developing communications-oriented curricula for high school students. Topics I want to cover (probably in separate curricula) include: understanding the media ecosystem, media literacy, and perhaps something around digital marketing storytelling.

Dressage: where the horse’s fancy footwork reflects largely on specific, clear prompting from its experienced human rider. It also drinks a lot of water.

Remind you of anything?

Clue: Old MacDonald had a horse. A-I-A-I- ...oh.

Tomorrow, a certain online mega-retailer launches a book sale, just days before Indie Bookstore Day on 4/26. This is no coincidence; Bookstore Day is one of the largest revenue drivers for indies.

Indies need our support to thrive & build community spaces for all...mega-retailers do not.

My favorite #medialiteracy question to ask: "SAYS WHO?" I taught a media literacy workshop to middle schoolers and introduced them to the "Says Who Rule." Whenever we're reading something, we should think about who wrote it, for what publication, and, of course, where their money comes from.

#journalists: I haven't really seen a quality exploration of the ways lobbyists/campaign finance have blocked some of the reforms that seem otherwise obvious to make (gov telling us how much we owe in taxes, family leave blocked due to lobbying by formula companies).
I'm sure this has *nothing* to do with the fact that Intuit, the company that owns TruboTax, which makes money off filing income taxes with the IRS, gave Donald Trump $1,000,000 for his inauguration slush fund. #Corruption
New, from me: The Trump administration is killing Direct File, the free IRS e-filing tool.
Users love it, and it creates incredible value for the public.

It's the clearest sign that DOGE wants a government that serves private and not public interests. 🧵

As usual, @theonion.com nails it. Currently writing a post about language that I’m planning to share on Monday.

Do any other #ADHD #neurospicy #entrepreneurs have trouble conceptualizing email sequences for their business? I feel like I'm clawing through a foam party. Every time I think I capture a thread, it slips away as my brain zooms out again.

Recently discovered the #Zettelkasten method of cataloguing ideas and am seeing Notion templates pop up. Anyone used it? I know Luhmann created it pre-computer so I'm curious as to how it holds up. #productivity #writingcommunity

You know it's been a productive day when at 6:50 pm you look up and have collected -- count 'em -- 5 beverage glasses, somehow placed evenly (?) across your desk. Coffee mug in the middle, of course! #adhd #neurodivergence

Learning to mine your own mind is essential for those dipping a toe into #thoughtleadership. I see #writers who are true thinkers struggling to write online, not because they can't come up with content ideas, but that they can't recognize a BIG idea as the source of many smaller #contentideas.

Looking for some tips from Bsky's #WritingCommunity -- any ADHD-friendly tips for tracking and cataloguing research for a book project? I don't know if I trust myself to dump everything into the same place (Notion, etc.) on a prolonged basis.

It's #NationalLibraryWeek AND my birthday! This year I want to finish some of the writing projects that are most important to me and share them with the world.

Ok, social impact campaign idea: reach out to elderly women directly impacted by these government cuts and have them make videos shaming and reprimanding Trump, Musk, the entire prepubescent cast of DOGE + GOP + inactive Dem lawmakers, by name. I'm talking videos, billboards, TikTok you name it.

If you tease me with an email subject line promising information and make me scroll to the bottom to find out that accessing that information requires a paid subscription, you have just lost a potential paying customer. I will never, ever pay you, purely out of spite, and because I don't trust you.
