Being ' #prophetic ' w/o #love is just banging a gong: "Perhaps we have the opportunity and stand in a tradition that has been at its best when it is critiquing all ideologies and powers in relation to the #gospel. Court #prophets don’t behave like this. They shill for only one party or ideology."
Inauguration prayers, Bishop Budde, Bill Maher, and the future of the mainline church

Mainline Christianity’s role in politics is shifting — can we be a prophetic voice of compassion and critique rather than a court prophet to power, asks Chris Currie?

The church sometimes encourages congregants to speak truth to power (prophecy!) but you also have to remind them that every human heart has a lust for power and self-worship. If you're just prophetizing all over the place but are not rooted in God's #agapeLove then you're just a clanging cymbal.

One question I want to ask more is "what do this week's #lectionary readings have to do with The #Gospel ... It's one thing to give a history lesson or word study, and another thing to remind each other about sacrifice offered for our sin and rebellious hearts.

Reminder that if you miss a week (or a month!) of liveskeeting the #lectionary you can always just start again. The Lectionary offers a fresh start every week! #resilience #grace.

So traditionally the third Advent candle is called Joy. It’s the pink one (well rose technically)…

The Revised Common Lectionary ALWAYS gives us John the Baptizer on the third Sunday🤦‍♀️.

This is why my sermon title for Sunday is “Joyful vipers?!?”

Luke 3:7-18 is not really about joy or singing... It's about John (#precursor to Jesus) telling ppl to truly #repent... He was the voice crying out in the wilderness, preaching a #baptism of #repentance and preparing a straight path for the Lord www.biblegateway.com/passage/?sea... #lectionary #rcl

Why are we singing loudly & joyfully? Because God has done #glorious things, and He is with us!
