How can you build bigger than the lot? There will always be restrictions no matter where you build.
What does that have to do with anything? The economics don’t change because you think smaller places work better for some.
Not everyone wants or needs a 4 bedroom house. Use these for smaller apartments. Keep everyone happy as I said previously.

Every small strip in one suburb combine to the issues we have now. There is nothing special worth preserving here over anywhere else. If councils / planning can pick and choose based on area the problem grows.

Not better if it changes the economics to make it less viable / more expensive for no gain.
This is a perfectly appropriate place to densify. In fact, just about everywhere is, we don't need to treat streets as sacred places.

It is far better than no housing. Its a small compromise and there are more than enough places to densify.
It is. You're making the housing more expensive by limiting it for what is ostensibly close to zero community gain - this shopping strip is not unique, special or particularly worthy of preservation. We need less expensive.
