I had the privilege of meeting Kirsty Duncan back in 2017. She was warm and sincere. She was our first and only 🇨🇦 Minister of Science who was a trained scientist. She consistently worked for positive meaningful change in all her government roles. Condolences to her family and friends.
Gutted to learn of the passing of Dr Kirsty Duncan.

She was a tireless fighter for the people she served, not only her local community in Toronto but others, especially the science & research &
athletics communities too.

She championed equity, diversity, inclusion and made change happen.

My annual "DO IT!" encouragement post!

Selfishly, my time on CSEE council was the highlight of my PhD, it opened doors and opportunities that research alone did not. And I think we accomplished some good things for the society! 🧪🌎
Do you want to help advance the profile of #ecology, #evolution, & #conservation in Canada? Do you want to be part of a team that gets things done on behalf of a broader community? Run for CSEE Council! Nominations due April 26. Learn more here: csee-scee.ca/elections/

Fellow #birders: has anyone used the Vortex Crossfire 8x42 #binoculars? Pros? Cons? How do they do in very cold weather?

Im looking into affordable options for my Ornithology students; i’ve only used Diamondbacks

I've been avoiding reading articles on the death of James Watson, co-discoverer of #DNA's structure.

That is, until I saw that @statnews.com published one by Sharon Begley, a renowned science writer who passed in 2021.

Yes, you read that right.

Meanwhile in 🇨🇦: CRA wants to move fr human to #AI assistants. Based on auditor general’s report, human agents give correct info 17% of the time, while the CRA FAQ chatbot is correct 33% of the time. It’s ludicrous these crap results are being used to justify use of AI 🤦🏻‍♀️
